View Full Version : MOD TALK
DakotaStone 06-15-2007, 04:51 PM I've been thinking about doing this for quite a while. The only reason is because we seem to get the same questions a lot. I have no problems, but I feel that it's a little repetative. On top of that, it'll be easier to maintain and easier for people to look up.
Iwant to encourage anyone and everyone to participate in this. There are a lot of creative people on this site and some very frugal ones too. Keep this thread as a MOD TALK ONLY!! No side bar conversations or Frenchy and I will delete that piece of conversation.
So let me start this thread off with what I have and know:
The first thing that I put into my truck is the Cold Air Intake (CAI). This allows your truck to pull in more air, which will make it burn more efficiently and it gives it a more of a throaty sound ($210.00 plus $54.00 for a different filter). I have a Air Aid intake with a TruFlo filter (foam vs gauze). You can gain up to 10 hp at the wheels and about the same for torque. K&N is a little more pricey, but they've been around the longest.
To compliment the CAI with lower restrictive air going out, I have a CatBack exhaust split sides that I had custom made. It was much cheaper and just as effective as a kit. I spent less than $400.00 with the MagnaFlow Muffler and two chrome tips. Has a nice rumble, but not too loud. I had one of the resonators taken out and kept one in. The resonators do not restrict the air flow out. It's just a straight thru pipe with aluminumwrapped around it. I double checked whenI had the exhaust put on.
That there between the two probablygave me up to 20 hp,if you go by the ratings that everyone puts out. I don't know. I had my truck Dyno'd in October and my truck was rated at 168 rwhp (I have AWD and the ratings will be lower than rear wheel drive trucks) and 219 lbs of tq. Notbad, but I forgot to include my Stage IJetChip.
Currently, the Jet Chip is the only thing that willdo a minor reprogram of the ECU. I had a Stage I, and it pretty much gave me a few more HP. One site thatIsaw said that it adds18 hp to the 4.7L. That might be at the crank, not at thewheels. The cost for that was about $239.00 at Summit Racing. I ended up getting the Stage II for $180.00 from a private seller. Not sure the HP/TQ rating. Very noticeable.
To go with the the Stage II, I bought a 180 degree thermostat (t-stat). This will help your truck run lower temps under the hood. I spent $35.00 through JetChips, but you can get it cheaper at Napa for around $10.00.
The last engine mod I have is the Throttle Body (TB). I paid $260.00 through Fastman.com. Our trucks come with a 68mm opening which narrows down to a 65mm in the back. Dan, the owner of Fastman, will tell you to get the 68.5mm for best performance. Anything bigger will take away your low end torque, unless you have a forced air induction (supercharger or turbo). According to Dan, he has heard of a 10/10 rating at the wheels gain and maybe two more miles to MPGs.
He also sells Cams. I believe he said 206/212 ($700.00). This will give you more power and torque. SuperDak05 is so far the only one I know of that has put in a set, but I think he bought his from KRC Performance.
When you do that, you're going to want to have the ECU reprogrammed to match the cams. This will cost you about $400.00. So you're looking at about $1500.00 to include having someone else put them in for you. Not cheap.
For my cosmetics, I haven't been too creative yet. I've added a set ofbedstripes, a tri-fold tonneau cover and I tinted the two front windows to match my rears; chrome bug deflector, gas door, and mesh grille.
That's pretty much it. I'll be adding more and I hope those of you who want to add stuff take advantage of this thread.
Good Luck.
Todd
I forgot to mention, POST PICS so we can see some progress and what they look like.
Cuban11182 06-15-2007, 06:42 PM Thanks for all the great info. Ill post measuremets when I put on my body kit and leveling kit.
Altair 06-15-2007, 09:38 PM Cosmetics-wise I installed the Trailmaster 2" Leveling Kit which raises the front end 2" placing it level with the rear. It was roughly $90 from Auto-Anything and makes a very noticeable difference in the look of the truck.
One thing of note with this kit is it can be installed two ways. It originally shipped with extra bolts and hardware and instructions to install the spacers above the strut (inbetween the top of the strut and the mount on the truck). Trailmaster has since changed the instructions and now recommends installing the spacers inbetween the spring and the top plate of the strut (preloading the spring), the bolts and extra hardware are not used. The new instructions are on their website in the support section, the old way is thought to cause problems on 4x4's.
ericemery 06-16-2007, 12:24 AM I have done a few things, mainly CAI, Exhaust, Chip and 180 Stat. I have added a soft cover and custom bed stripes. (the only ones like them on DF. :) ) I have also painted my wheels, tinted my windows, added another set of fog lights, and painted my brake calipers/drums.
fbnzippy 06-16-2007, 08:03 AM New guy here, just got a 07 Dak, new off the lot. SO fat, i have just removed the stock 3 foot muffler. Mine is the FlexFuel 4.7, so only has the rear Resonator. I am just running the Cat and Res. SOunds pretty good. Not fully broke in yet, so not sure of any power increases. I will be putting a Flowmaster, or Spintech muffler in, not sure which, and ditching the Resonator. Also, a CAI is on the way, Metal tube one. I will be Ceramic coating the tube, to keep the intake charge that much cooler.
billcat 06-16-2007, 09:15 PM does it matter what order to add these mods? or should i say do yall recomend?

does it matter what order to add these mods? or should i say do yall recomend?
No it doesn't. You do have to put the CAI and the exhaust in before you add the Stage II JetChip. Stage II is for modified engines where the Stage I is for minor bolt ons.
If you could add prices to your mods, please do. This will give the newer guys and the not so experienced an idea as to what they're looking at spending.
06RTDAK 06-18-2007, 09:12 PM I'm what you wouldcall OLD school! :)(I'm 53)
I have been working on MoPars all my life, mainly 60's and 70's cars.
Now for mystupid question. I just recieved my Jet chip and thermostat, Jet #10177.
The stat has a rubber gasket attached to it. Is this how they come now?
Or do I still needa seperate gasket?
DakotaStone 06-19-2007, 04:11 PM Mine came with one too, but I haven't installed mine either. I think it stays on. EricEmery could answer that.
Frenchy 06-19-2007, 04:20 PM Yes, it stays on, when you remove the stock 'stat there will be a little gasket inside... you remove the old one, replace with this one. :-)
ericemery 06-20-2007, 11:42 PM yeah, you need a gasket still... the jet stat has a good one. I just got a new one from napa when I got my stat... only cost me a buck I think.

Altair 07-01-2007, 09:48 PM To add to my mods I've replaced all my factory speakers (4 speaker system, not the premium one) with Polk db650 speakers. They make an enormous difference in sound quality and don't have any trouble running off the factory head unit. I got all 4 for $120 from Cardomain's store, they were having a sale on them at the time.
Also had a new exhaust system installed recently, bought a Hooker Headers dual tip on Ebay for $40 shipped (Chrome tip, 2.5" ID inlet) and took it to my local exhaust shop. I had them remove all the factory exhaust behind the "Y" pipe (where the pipes from the headers come together) and install a Vortex muffler (comparable to a flowmaster 40, bit better sound IMO) with custom piping that exits just in front of the rear wheel on the passenger side. The muffler and exhaust work cost me $110 (had to barter a bit, the muffler alone is normally $100) so all told $150 for custom exhaust isn't bad at all. The truck seems to go a little better now and it definitely sounds a LOT better.
curtiplas 07-02-2007, 01:21 AM So I as far as performance Mods I've installed a K&N 77 Series Cold Air Intake which I purchased for about $200 off autoanything.com. I also had a local shop fabricate Straight pipes with an Xclerator Muffler (Simmilar to a magnaflow muffler only a bit more quiet) all for about $150. The exhaust is 2.5 which is the same as stock I believe.
For Visual mods I got some black tailight covers for about $50 off ebay. Tinted headlight covers off autoanything for $50. Tailight cover from pepboys for $20 lights up with the Ram's head when you brake. I got a Black Stubbie antenna off line... forget where for $20. A soft Tonneau cover (Extang BlackMax) off autoanything.com for $250. And lastly black and blue racing pedal covers from pepboys.
STEPHAN 07-10-2007, 06:10 PM What would be the best MOD to get first for my Dakota? Thing is it is only the 3.7L V6.
DakotaStone 07-11-2007, 11:12 AM I suggest going with a Cold Air Intake. They're the cheapest and it helps it breath better. Then I would go with the exhaust and a chip later.
Frenchy 07-11-2007, 12:19 PM First mod, I would go with an electric fan...
Night_Runner 07-11-2007, 01:54 PM first mod, tint
BACKnBLACK 07-11-2007, 07:33 PM Rhino Linings bed liner
STEPHAN 07-11-2007, 09:26 PM Thnx guys. think i will go with the Cold Air first
Frenchy 07-11-2007, 11:32 PM First mod, SUPERCHARGER!!!
That may be a first, and last mod, actually.
STEPHAN 07-18-2007, 08:03 PM does anyone know if you can get a pillar for gauges for our trucks? I've looked all over and cant seem to fing any.
curtiplas 07-19-2007, 01:19 PM I haven't seen any yet for the 3rd Gen Dakota's you might want to find a company that makes them and the contact info for that company and post it in the "WE NEED AFTERMARKET STUFF..." thread
4x4QC06V8DKTA 07-23-2007, 01:08 PM hey yall...where can I find a throttle body? all i can find is TB spacers...are those good to use or not? but does anyone know where i can find a TB at? and when i do get the throttle body should I use the TB spacer too?
4x4QC06V8DKTA 07-23-2007, 01:10 PM hey where did you find that TB? www.fastman.com (http://www.fastman.com) is a website for facial care stuff...i'm having a hard time finding a throttle body for my truck...all i can find is throttle body spacers are those good to use or should i replace the TB and use the spacer?

4x4QC06V8DKTA 07-23-2007, 04:42 PM Thanks....it says it takes it from a 68.50 to a 71MM and he says he doesn't recomend the 71mm so should i get that one or not? its like the only one there that is applicable for my vehicle! but would a throttle body spacer be good to use? I have a Street Desisgn Throttle body spacer that adds 10HP/14TQ....I Just wanna know has anyone used one and if it works good or if you think I should or should not use it.

Altair 07-23-2007, 04:52 PM Honestly I haven't seen it for our trucks but I've seen dyno sheets with and without TB spacers on the same truck, the spacer did absolutely nothing. Also everything I've read on here seems to indicate it would make a cool looking paperweight but not much more.
curtiplas 07-24-2007, 07:47 AM Throttle body Spacers are paperweights and that's it DON'T waste your money... as far as what bore TB take a look at this http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_844092/tm.htm, I hope this helps
4x4QC06V8DKTA 07-24-2007, 11:44 AM yeah thanks man that helped! just tryin to figure out now wich one to order cause really there is only one that says is applicable from 2003 and UP and it says it goes from 68MM to 71MM and he doesn't recommend that one cause it takes alot of Low End Torque Away! so I don't even know which one to order!
curtiplas 07-24-2007, 01:26 PM Well when he says it goes from 68 to 71 he's refering to the range of sizes you can order.
4x4QC06V8DKTA 07-24-2007, 01:39 PM yeah do i just have to write that in the comments or something? like when i went to order it I wrote in the Comment box that i wanted a TB bored out to 68.50MM so that I know he would read it and send me that one...is that how your supposed to order it and let him know the right size?
4x4QC06V8DKTA 07-24-2007, 03:16 PM hey guys i gotta ? 4 yall....I have an AEM intake on the way and i was just thinking about it when i went to lunch and poped my hood...there is a sensor i think its the Air Temp. gage sensor and it didn't say anything about it on AEM's website about anything....for those of yall with intakes do the intakes come with a sensor built in so you can plug that one wire back up to the the intake??
DakotaStone 07-25-2007, 08:23 PM Mine did. Yours should come with one too. It's pretty much and automatic thing.
Altair 07-25-2007, 09:19 PM You should be fine, usually the only way you'd get one without that is with some very sketchy no-name brands. AEM is a good company, I'm sure they included that in the design.
4x4QC06V8DKTA 07-25-2007, 11:58 PM Sweet thanks guys...yeah i guess it would be common sense...but yeah just thought about it and was like Oh ****...It should be in tomorrow hopefully!
curtiplas 07-26-2007, 10:17 AM yeah mine came with a whole on the intake where I took the sensor out of the old intake and changed a lil' rubber washer and put the sensor in the new intake... really easy :-P
4x4QC06V8DKTA 07-26-2007, 11:04 AM well how do you take it out? do you have to cut the washer or something? cause it seemed to be pretty well in there!
DakotaStone 07-26-2007, 12:11 PM I believe all you have to do is just pull it out. It's not going to be easy to do.
curtiplas 07-26-2007, 12:37 PM yeah you pull the sensor out gently.. the roll the washer off and insert the sensor in to the new intake... really simple...
RMUDBUGS 07-27-2007, 10:52 PM does anyone know if you can get a pillar for gauges for our trucks? I've looked all over and cant seem to fing any.
Sort of. I think the Rams have the same steering console we do. Someone makes a 1 and a 2 gauge pod that fits over steering calum cove behind the steering wheel. I saw it on another forum. Has anyone else seen this?
Altair 07-27-2007, 10:59 PM I don't think the rams are exactly the same. My dad has an 02 ram and his steering wheel and housing behind it definitely seem bigger than ours... I'd have to measure it to be 100% sure though.
RMUDBUGS 07-27-2007, 11:40 PM I found it, May not be for a Ram. It's on a forum that this one will not let me link to. dodge talk

Said when driving he can't see 0 - 20 or 100 - 120....

Hey now those are very important speeds, gotta see those :D:D:D
curtiplas 07-30-2007, 07:45 AM IDK my needle is always past those anyway... :-P
blackdak06 07-30-2007, 02:21 PM I'm new to this forum, so forgive me if this was already mentioned, but I have a 3.7L '06 Dakota, and want to increase the hp. I plan on installing a K&N 63 intake and dual exaust, i'm leaning towards the MBRP split side cat back exhaust. Has anyone ever used MBRP or heard good/bad things about them? After that I want to put in a JET Chip, I was thinking Stage I because I can still use 87 gas instead of 91, but if Stage II has more noticeable hp and there are some sort of increase in mpg with the better fuel, than it may be worth it. I'm not looking to make my dakota into a race truck, I just want there to be some more power when i give it some gas, I have a standard so I can shift at higher rpms to get up to speed, but I'd still like the engine beefed up a little. I'm on a tight budget right now so I'm going to have to do these three things in stages, but I want to make sure I'm going to get the most hp gain I can between these three mods. Let me know what you guys think and which brands you think I should go with for the CIA and Cat-Back exhaust. Thanks!

DakotaStone 07-31-2007, 02:36 PM I went with a custom jobby on my exhaust with a Magnaflow muffler and tips. Sounds great and I had some great power gains from it.
I also went with the Airaid intake. It's cheaper than the K&N and you get the same gains on paper.
curtiplas 07-31-2007, 09:38 PM I went with the K&N 77series and I love it... although it is more "showy" than the 63 series the heat transfer through the Chrome intake is negligable... and I as well had my exhaust done at an exhaust shop... but I had a Goerlich Xclerator muffler put on ... same design as a magnaflow but not as loud... also my exhaust is 2.5" so I didn't change the diameter...
If your looking for more HP another mod you might want to consider is a new Throttle Body... don't even consider a Throttle Body Spacer... they do nothing... you wanta whole new Throttle body ... Lots of ppl on this forum will recommend www.thefastman.com (http://www.thefastman.com) ... :-D
Hope this helps
blackdak06 08-01-2007, 11:15 AM Here's what I got so far styling wise, the prices are all approximate from what I can remember:
DODGE 4-fold Hard Tonneau Cover - $800
Westin Bull Bar - $400
Tinted Front Windows - $100
Chrome Door Handles and Tailgate Handles - $100
Chrome Fule Door - $75
Window Visors - $50
Bling Fog Lights - $50
Silvania Silver Star H13 - $30
LED Reverse Bulbs - $25
Trailer Ball - $5
I'm not adding anything else to the outside until I save up some more money and complete what I want to do performance wise to my dakota, the 3.7L isn't really powerful enough for me right now, but I have a standard so with a few mods I think I can get it where I need it to be. Right now i'm thinking K&N 63 intake, Fastman TB, MBRP cat back split side exhaust. Then maybe a 180 T-stat, Jet Stage II, and hopefully JBA makes some headers for the 3.7L Dakota, if I was located near them I'd definitly give them my truck for two weeks to work on. Anyone in here have a 3.7 and live near JBA, they're looking for 05-07 Daks with a 3.7 to test headers on? Might be cool to check out.
blackdak06 08-01-2007, 11:19 AM Guess I should also add the Mr. Grill diagonal grill - $230.
You think of all the things to remember that would be the one I wouldn't forget. As far as Mr. Grille goes, they're not the greatest run company in the world. They do pick up when you call, other than that, they weren't so helpful to me. It took almost 2 months for me to get my grill instead of the 3-4 weeks they told me. When the grill arrived, it came wrapped OK, but was loose in two secitons and also has one bar that is out of place by about 1/8th of an inch. I didn't bother to contact them and complain cause it would just take way too long to hear back from them. It also prevents me from accessing the latch to get to my hood so now i have to stick a screwdriver between the grill to get the latch open until i decide if i want to install an electric latch or not. It is very different though and I'm sure not too many people will have this exact grill, I only know of one person who has it, and yes, I copied them, but I'm in NY and they're on the West Coast so I think its OK.
curtiplas 08-01-2007, 12:10 PM I have a 3.7L but IDK where JBA is located... I'm in MI...
DakotaStone 08-01-2007, 04:58 PM JBA is located in Tacoma WA.
Next question.:D
DAKOTA FISHIN 08-01-2007, 09:46 PM i have just bought a 05 3.7 does anyone on here have mods done on theirs and have they made a big difference?
curtiplas 08-02-2007, 07:24 AM CAI & exhaust together... or alot of people get more response out of a new Throttle body... personally I've also noticed some more "get up and go" with some new spark plugs...nothing major but I can accelerate a fast at lower rpms than before...but your biggest bang for your buck is gonna be with the Cold Air Intake, exhaust, and a new Throttle body.
4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-02-2007, 12:26 PM YEAH THATS TRUE hey did you ever get your Throttle body in yet? yeah does anyone know what size our front rotors are? i found a set of drilled and slotted and they say that they are a 12.3" will that fit with stock applications or what?

YEAH THATS TRUE hey did you ever get your Throttle body in yet? yeah does anyone know what size our front rotors are? i found a set of drilled and slotted and they say that they are a 12.3" will that fit with stock applications or what?
I just read this, http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_903008/tm.htm
why are you still asking about what rotors fit if you already know?

4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-08-2007, 12:58 PM well lets see...considering he has different bigger calipers...NOT THE STOCK braking system like mine is I don't know if they would fit...and i don't wanna wast 260 bucks on something that won't fit....and like i said if you doubt me give a call and i'll Prove that my buddy has a dakota 450HP i've got pictures in my phone of it!

DakotaStone 08-11-2007, 10:11 AM Win what? Come on Frenchy. Be nice.
STEPHAN 08-11-2007, 08:14 PM Did anyone notice a difference in power when they got a CAIfor the 3.7L V6 dakota.
DakotaStone 08-14-2007, 01:21 PM I didn't notice much of a difference on the 4.7L, but I did notice a nicer growl from the engine.
Frenchy 08-14-2007, 02:13 PM [sm=imsmilin.gif]
I had the same thing, don't really notice a difference, but sounds waaaaaaaaay better!!!!
Speaking of intakes, I'm getting a cheap one off eBay for the Celica, that I've heard makes it sound turbocharged at higher RPMs... hehehe..
Hehehe, I'm dumb.
4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-14-2007, 03:21 PM WELL my intake actually has not come in yet...do you guys actually notice a MPG difference or does it not effect it that much?
Frenchy 08-14-2007, 03:49 PM Yes and no...
Depends on how you drive, and if you add exhaust as well... more intake, doesn't help, if it can't leave as freely.
DakotaStone 08-14-2007, 04:22 PM Not much of a difference as far as gains. I think a lot of it is a bunch of hype to make a sale. Now if you get the JetChip Stage I or II, you'll notice a difference with that all of the way around since it tells the computer what you have going on.
4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-14-2007, 04:23 PM YEAH well i have cat back exhaust that custom exits out in front of the rear tire so that and an intake should that help with gas mileage? i mean i drove like a grandma never leting it get above 3000RPMS and yeah i got 15.5MPG and it wasn't bad but still i was like GOD this sucks!
DakotaStone 08-14-2007, 04:41 PM You own a truck. It's going to suck. Like I said, get the JetChip and that will make a difference. I was hitting 21 on the highway... @ 80mph.
4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-14-2007, 05:44 PM yeah thats cool thanks man...i'll have to get stage 1 since i really don't have many mods...and just deal with that for a while!
curtiplas 08-15-2007, 11:38 AM I didn't notice much of a diff in performance on my 3.7L V6 when I installed the CAI but I did get my exhaust done less than 24 hours after the CAI and well I noticed a diff after that... and both mods make the truck sound alot meaner and leaner... granted I have a quiet exhaust system...
4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-15-2007, 01:14 PM yeahp can't wait to put my headers on....i have them but don't wanna put them on just yet! cause 1) still have my warranty and it only has 10K on it...I know some guys on here will say....Just through it on your motors ready...but yeah not just yet...got my 180 degree thermostat put in yesterday...got Stage 1 on order...got my intake in so by this weekend...intake, thermostat, and stage 1 will be on by Sunday! so hopefully that will make my truck breath alot better and run better and get better Gas Mileage MAYBE....but yeah by next summer i should have alot more done...and hopefully by next fall have a Supercharger on it pushing like 5-8 pounds of boost!
4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-15-2007, 05:51 PM well I will...its called i'm lazy and yeah not that tecnically and computerly inclined as some of you people...lol i'll get my truck pictures up shortly!
Altair 08-15-2007, 08:40 PM Ah geeez here we go again...
*Grabs a bag of popcorn and waits* [sm=teetertooter.gif]
4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-16-2007, 01:38 AM I'll Get pictures of my dakota up soon enough...i never have time to do anything...to busy...with school and working...not an easy task iight...
DakotaStone 08-16-2007, 04:16 PM Hold off on the side bar conversations please.
4X4, your warranty won't run out with headers on. You'll be ok. It may, on the other hand, run out with the S/C on it since you have to crack open the engine and change out the cams and a few other things.
4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-16-2007, 04:17 PM yeah....i know that just uhm....you know my exhaust makes enough noise in the cab as it is and yeah putting headers on it right now wont' exactly help that out!
Altair 08-20-2007, 12:26 AM Yeah, we should try to keep it in the other threads though. tbh this thread could really use some cleanup where it's stickied and really only supposed to be about mods. We've taken it a bit off topic...[&:]
turbot_bird 08-20-2007, 12:27 AM ya, that it does need
troymoto25 08-22-2007, 03:28 PM Thought you guys might want to see these. That's about all you can see of the headers once they are installed, not too exciting. The dyno graph shows a 42 lb-ft torque gain @ 2500rpm & 20 hp gain @ 2500rpm & 5500rpm, and you feel EVERY bit of it! The parts installed are Doug Thorley Headers (not Doug's Headers) shorties and a Doug Thorley Headers cat-back exhaust.
To explain the graph, the BLACK line is my all stock 2007 4.7L (non HO)2wd Dakota, the RED line is the headers only & the GREEN line is the headers & exhaust.

curtiplas 08-22-2007, 05:42 PM Hey are those headers made for the 3.7L v6 as well... I mean obviously they'd be different but does that guy/company make them for the V6??
BACKnBLACK 08-22-2007, 10:20 PM troymoto25, nice results!
rookie 08-22-2007, 11:12 PM I wish i hadn't seen those.
4x4QC06V8DKTA 08-23-2007, 03:18 PM those look nice and clean...but yeah man uhm...its only 187 at the wheels? i mean stock don't we have like 186 at the wheels and like 230 at the crank?
DakotaStone 08-23-2007, 03:50 PM Very nice results. I guess headers might become my next mod.
curtiplas 09-09-2007, 05:37 PM V6 or only V8???
pro4x4 09-11-2007, 06:35 PM Ok here is my engine mods and results. First my truck is an 05 club cab SLT 4x4 with the 4.7L V8 and 3.55 LSD rear.Average mpg 12.5 to 13mpg I do all city type driving and drive easy. All gas mileage numbers are hand calculated.
First mod was airaid intake kit. Noticed a littlebetter throttle response not much in the way of mpg increase.
Second was a Gibson Dual Sport exhaust system. Noticed a small increase in throttle response and not any mpg increase.
Third mod was a flex-a-lite black magic electric fan. This was the best mod so far. I noticed a good increase in throttle response and an increase in mpg. Averaged 15 to 15.4mpg.
The last mod was the Fastman 68.5mm throttle body. This really increased throttle response but my mpg dropped slightly to 14.2 mpg. Just today though I got 15.2 mpg.
So to sum up the best 2 mods for power increase is the electric fan and the throttle body. The fan showed the best mpg increase.
I may add a set of headers down the road and am wondering if Switching to 3.92 gears would help with the mpg. My goal is more power and better gas mileage.
curtiplas 09-12-2007, 04:58 PM Hey I don't remember does the Fastman TB add any Hp or just Tq... I remember hearing or reading that it only adds to Tq but I can't see how it would add to one and not the other...
4x4QC06V8DKTA 09-12-2007, 05:07 PM from what the guy told me its supposed to add 10hp/10tq
ZQ8Dude 10-18-2007, 09:29 PM So i read through this and saw some supercharger talk. Is there a blower for these trucks?? and it seems that there is now tuning options and cams.
Does anyone know if this will transition to the 08s?

We don't know yet. I guess you might say that there's a 50/50 chance, but DCX is doing things differently with this engine.
As for the blowers, I'm sure you can find one that fits, I believe S/C would be built with one in mind... otherwise, I couldn't tell you, but they do have shakers out there for you.
4x4QC06V8DKTA 10-29-2007, 03:26 PM yeah but the shaker hoods dont look that good on our trucks though they look like ****!

From my understanding, Volant still has not made a CAI yet for a 3rd Gen. Dakota. I had my truck in their shop one day last week. They are making a molding from it right now. I will have to take my truck back in 6 weeks to be fitted. From there, they will be doing a dyno on my truck. I guess you can say my truck will be the guinea pig. I will keep you guys posted on the Volant CAI.
BTW, I now have a 07 4.7HO SLT quad cab black in color. It's beautiful. Many mods to come including a Volant exhaust too. I only have had the truck for a week. But you guys have given me many ideas. Thanks.
This is my third Dakota. My 98 V-6 was reitired at 346,000 miles. My 06 4.7 quad cab (26,000 miles)was retired in November thanks to some lady blacking out on the freeway and slamming into the back of my truck.

HotRod*85 02-24-2008, 04:01 PM Hey, new to the site and haven't had much time to look around. I have an 06 Dakota RT and I am looking to put 20" SRT-10 wheels and tires on it, anyone know if the 20x9's will fit where the old 17x8 chrome clad ones did?
If you want the list of mods, I can post that also with any help along with them. Oh yea, and before I forget, whatwill the 180 thermostat do for me, if anyone has specifics?
DAKid07 02-24-2008, 05:26 PM Alright guys im new to the forum and i just bought a 07 ST DAK with the 3.7 and im looking to increase HP and MPG and im just looking for the best place to start and what would be the best choose im brandname too. Alright thx guys
Starlord 04-08-2008, 12:19 PM I have been looking at replacement foglights, called Flamethrowers, at Wal*Mart, for $19.94. They look to be almost the same size as the OEM lights, do you think I can replace the OEM with them? Also, what is with this penguin sign that keeps popping up, I find it's signs most offensive.
Gnefkow 04-14-2008, 10:21 AM Hey guys,
I just got a 2008 dakota (so i'm new around here) and I've been looking around but i can't find hardly anything online for it
Its got the 3.7l v6 which i would assume would be the same motor as the 2007s
Would everything be compatible or will I have to wait longer?
I would also like to lower it a bit but i'm having the same problem, will any 3rd gen stuff work?
DakotaStone 04-15-2008, 03:28 PM Glad to see that the thread that I created is still going on. Too bad none of the people who have been around are answering it.
To start off, the 2008 are still considered (I believe) Gen III's. They haven't changed a whole lot. I know that the 3.7L's are the same engines, so I'd check around at some the sights that I listed in the first thread. If nothing else, you can build a Cold Air Intake and have a custom exhaust built for your truck. For the most part, the custom built exhaust is less expensive and have the same results. I'd check around.

You should be able to replace them. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Good luck.

I'm not sure if the 20X9's will fit, but go on line and look for the "Replica SRT10 Wheels" They make them specifically for the Dakotas.

If you have the V6, the engines are identical. So any upgrades to it should be the same as the '05-'07 models. As far as anything else out there, products should be the same. Any 3 Gen product should work. But lowering it? The suspension on very late '07's like mine and the new '08s is much improved. I am not sure I would screw with it.

lghtngblt02 07-24-2008, 01:35 PM Welcome to DF...hmm an intake would be a nice next mod
It makes a world of difference, plus it has a cool sound
Dozier 07-24-2008, 10:10 PM Should I go tb or cai first or does it matter
curtiplas 07-25-2008, 09:46 AM Go with a CAI, it would be better than a TB right now, You'll want more air mixing with the amount of fuel you have. Besides with the Exhaust it'll be a nice mod. IMHO I think that a CAI and exhaust should always go hand in hand, they just compliment and work with each other so Well.
