View Full Version : Stuttering
A few days ago my car starting acting odd. When I push on the gas pedal more than 1/3 of the way down, my car will kind of stutter. What I mean is that it won't go as fast and smooth as it should. I checked some of the posts and have pretty much ruled out the ECU. Any Ideas? Thanks
yevgenievich 05-21-2007, 01:38 AM sounds like there is not enough fuel coming in. maybe injectors or fuel pump, or air filter cloged up.
thestealth 05-21-2007, 01:18 PM I wouldn't totally rule out leaky capacitors on any of the control units. They can and will cause odd problems. It's easy enough to access that is it at least worth looking at, just to be sure.
I took apart the ECU and the capacitors were all fine and the board was ingood shape. What other control units should I look at? Also, I am starting to wonder if it could be my col air intake I put on last year. About two weeks after I put it on, I put my car in storage for the winter so I am trying to remember if his problem was occuring before than. I thought maybe the intake was in a place where it isn't getting enough air.
thestealth 05-21-2007, 04:05 PM Where applicable...the TCU and ECS computers.
It could be a case of bad plug wires, bad plugs, incorrect plug gap, fuel filter, air filter, vacuum leak(s), bad gas.
I really think it is the fuel pump because the same thing was going on with my dad's truck last month. What this fuel pump work?

I know it says it will fit my car but I am always nervous about buying parts off ebay. Also, will the walk through on Stealth 316 work on NA cars?
yevgenievich 05-25-2007, 03:17 AM that pump probably will fit but i woud check first with local auto parts store(at least in most stores they will let you bring the part back f it doesn't fit). if walk trough on 316 is for twin turbo stealth then it should work on NA cars, i thinkn twin turbo cars just have higher pressure fuel pump. (i'm just not sure what you mean by stealth 316)
Yea my stores do have it in stock, its just $100 cheaper on ebay.
yevgenievich 05-25-2007, 04:30 PM there is probably a reason it's cheaper. The guy have good feedback and one year warranty, so i would probably get it but if it's cheaply manufactored fuel pump it might go bad in a year and a half.
Yea that is a good point. Thanks for the advice
John M 05-31-2007, 04:18 PM Before replacing the fuel pump, try the Fuel Pump Relay Bypass mod in the Links section of my webpage. (http://moojohn.com/stealth)
It's quick and easy to do, and it costs nearly nothing to try.
I was on my way to NAPA to order a pump when i saw my friend, a mechanic, in the parking lot. He told me it could be because of bad back pressure in my exhaust. I knew I had a leak some where before the cat but I didn't think that could be the problem.
I told him that sometimes the problem clears up once you get to about 3000 RPM's and he said it could be beacuse of the leak and since I was going to get a new downpipe and test pipe, told me to try that and see if it works. The only thing I don't know is if the leak is on the headers or downpipe, which isn't a big deal because I am going to look at that tomarrow. Do you guys think it could be because of lower back pressure?
thestealth 06-14-2007, 03:32 PM An exhaust leak might cause a small hesitation, but I would think it would be barely noticeable...
yevgenievich 06-14-2007, 08:09 PM i would agree with thestealth, unless you have huge leak you should not see much of hesitation. I drove with a leak for a month without any hesitations, i didn't even noticed the leak untill i went to muffler shop
Hey just a follow up. I replaced the downpipe and the problem went away. There were a few holes in the pipe and that was the problem. No more hesitation/stuttering. Thanks for everyones help!
thestealth 07-20-2007, 09:23 AM Good news. Sometimes simple things are often overlooked or not considered.
