Well, you are not going to get a 04 Ext. cab, they do not exist, so I am assuming you are looking at 05 Ext. Cabs.

For the 04 the first thing you should do is check the crank pully bolts. Make sure they are torqued to 110-120 ft/lb.

Also check the door seals, like all 04 Rams they tear near the base of the windshield where the door corner will grab onto it when opening, Dodge has a replacement seal they will replace under warranty. This also applies to 05.

04 does not have a knock sensor so NEVER run anything less than premium fuel.

As for the ext. cab, theya re detuned a bit from the factory. First mod should be a PCM flash. As for the auto vs manual, they both have their issues. Clutch is weak on the manual. Auto, well it is a auto and no fun.

I'm also looking for an 04/05/06 SC Black SRT10, I had a great one lined up but I wasn't able to sell either of my other vehicles in time and I can't take a third car payment for just one person right now

I've driven a few though and I'm really in love with the truck, I just want to know what I need to be weary of, what the major problems are, etc.

Thanks guys!!!

There really is not much to be to worried over, other than what I listed. The clutch system is the worst part. The stock tires are also somewhat of a bad ride. Many have complained about them, while some say they do not have issues with them. Me, I hated them

Things to note year to year

04 has different gears 4.10 vs 4.56 in 05 and 06.
04 has smaller brakes.
No knock sensor in the 04.
06 has the updated front end and interior. I can take or leave the front, like them both. But I think the interior of a 04/05 looks much better than the 06.
Slight badging changes year to year.

If I had it to do over I would get a 05 CE.

You should definitely go with the '05 and up. If you plan on using your truck as a daily driver be weary of gas mileage...Ican't get more than180 milesafter each fill(26 gallon tank). Of course, I'm prepared to live in my truck if necessary. GO FOR IT!!!

These are the best, most fun trucks ever. The manual tranny is a blast to drive, making the RC a big, 5000 lb. sports car.

Yes there are some small issues here and there and the mileage blows, but overall the Ram SRT-10 is a great ride!
