Has any one put in an after market stereo? I am trying to install the sony stereo i pulled out of my 04 dak (as you guys know i rolled it) and put it in my 05. The harness for the 04 doesn't work in the 05. So far every store i have gone to only has harnesses for "02 and up". so what needs to be done to make the old harness work? One guy told me all i have to do is run a new power line. However just connecting to power keeps the stereo on even when the keys not in the ignition. So I need to connect to some accessorie line instead. Just wondering how you guys have done it

i by passed my complete harness system and went with all new. only thing i kept was the speaker harness and i had to splice into those. tweeter had the face plate i was looking for and best buy had the components. everything was a sure fit

you can pulled a switched hot from the back of the fan control harness, I believe it's the pink/grey wire

I used a new harness from best buy, and the cover that fills the stupid knob holes on the sides so it looks nice... and i connected it (this is what SCREWED me during the install cuz i didnt know what to DO) to the outlet wire.

i bought a harness from crutchfield that was like 15 bucks and it told me to connect to the grey/pink wire behind the hvac panel but that causes the radio to only work when the truck is on, not in accessory. if you run the wire to the fuse panel there is one open space that is a switched power and the radio works in accessory and when running. thats the way mine is wired.

what a pain in the butt this is! my 04 had a harness that i plugged in and was done. none of this running wire crap. I was going to run a wire to the fuse box for my radar detector and satellite radio already. which place did you plug into on the fuse box. i was looking at the one set up for the sun roof and sound box i don't have on my dak. haven't tested it with a fuse in it yet to see if it is an accessory fuse but it makes sence to me that it should be.

i totally agree with you that it is a pain in the butt, all my other cars are plug in and your done. the spot that i landed to in the fuse panel is 54 and its a spare. i went to every open spot that i had with a meter and that was the only one that seemed to work in both accessory and when running.

btw, how did you conenct to #54? Did you use some type of connector pushed into the slot?

yeah, i just used a basic fork connector, one prong in each of the slots and i have an inline fuse for overload protection

I ran my acc. to the ignition... brown/pink at the cloumn... make sure to fuse it. (5 amp would do just great)
