I have a 2002 Durango R/T. When I turn hard left or hard right I hear a grinding/growling noise. I cannot tell if it coming from the front or rear of the vechicle. But, when I roll down the window and listen it seems to be coming from the rear. I just had the transmission serviced as well as both differentials fluid changed. Any ideas? The brakes were all replaced several months ago.

Upper/Lower controls? CV's? U joints?

Did the noise after the diff service? If so, does it pos track?  If it does have pos track they may have foregot friction modifier.

Yes, the noise started after the differential and trans service. No noise yesterday, noise today. I just got the vehicle back from the dealership this afternoon. I am not sure about the POS track question. I am a bit of bonehead governing specifics of my vehicle. 02 R/T.

What I have noticed is the noise is not present until I have driven the Durango for at least 30 minutes. If I let it cool down and take it for a drive, no noise upon turning, but after 20 to 30 minutes it starts. Any ideas on that? Thanks for your help!

How many miles did you go between fluid changes?

"How many miles did you go between fluid changes?"

I am unsure how many miles there were between fluid changes as I recently  purchased the vehicle as a Dodge Certified used. It has 60,000 on it. I assumed that it must have been changed prior as it was owned by a former Dealership manager. I took it back to the dealer (a different one than where I purchased it). And they put in the friction modifier. The sound from the rear is now gone. Is there anything I should be concerned about here?

Usually a growling noise means the diff is gonna go on you. If you have a warranty get the stealership to replace it under warranty because it can be an expensive repair.
