thanks frenchy , the tint strip measures 12" from the top of the windshield. the main grill is a speed grillinsertmade by street scene (part#950-78608) ordered from stillen.com for $164.50. the valance insert was not available so i ordered the long valance grill for the 2006 ram. i had to cut it,and mountthem in place. the main grill pieces are mounted flush behind the grill shell. i just didn't like the way ,or the look, they want you to mount them in place.

i want to know 2 things

1-are those just tips, or do u have a whole exhaust. and info
2-did your truck come with the rear mud flaps, or did u buy them? if so, how much were they?

also, i had a speed grill on my ram then i switched to phantom. ive been trying to decide wether to get a black chrome speed grill or black billet grill...what do u think? both would be "bolt on"

they come black like evrything else. mine cost 70.00 to have painted to match. they put a special flex agent in the paint to help them from cracking

the fire&icelight bar(stylin concept.com $80.00)was not to bad to install, the resistor is for the brightness on the running lights only. with the tail light covers they were to bright. i do like the fire&ice bar and like you ,i wanted the reverse led to. they help out a little bit to light up behind you.(and it looks cool) you can plug it in or hard wire it in (you do have to wire itin to the reverse light), there are no blinker issues with the LED bar. it comes with tape to mount it , but i used some90 degree brackets and stainless screws. now the grill, you have totake out your grill, the speed grill mounts with these stupid clips so i mounted mine flush with the back of the grill shell with small cable ties (you can't see them, and they work great) no cutting, drilling or bolting. man i think the black chrome speed grill and tail light covers would look tight on your night runner. i'll get some pics up. thanks for the pic info.

thanks for the compliments....i know the speed grill got A LOT more votes, but the more i look at the black billet with 10 bars in each kidney (section) the more i like it....the more i look at the black speed grill, the more i think it just looks alright....the speed grill def looks much better in chrome or brushed or polished aluminum....as for the taillights, that is a def for me, i just want to get the fire&ice first....ive wanted it for a while, and thanks to scottscan, im convinced....im still lookin for a real billet 3rd brake light cover that i like....that i will have painted to match the truck...

the only thing i catch myself wondering is, when i do get a grill, how will i release the hood latch? i dont want to rig up some crap...i may have to cut a little square in the grill...some ive seen are shaped around for access to the latch, some are not

Altair

that is the link to where i found the grill, it is made by Precision Design

or u can go to Precision Designs page...this is the only grill they make for our trucks and are actually 2 pieces, not 4..

go to http://www.precisiongrilles.com

select year, make, model, then click select....it will give you 1 option and its like "classic billet"...it wont show a pic of it on our dakotas, but thats the same grill, i checked the part numbers....they dont make it in a black though...that means POWDERCOAT!!!!!!!!!! that is the only grill ive seen for our trucks with 10 bars in each kidney, this i feel gives a better look than others

id rather cut the very top 1 or 2 bars 2inches short in the top right corner of the midsection then have the whole thing powdercoated

curtiplas
05-01-2007, 01:30 PM
Well I geuss if you powdercoat it black...it would be alright... but I sill like the Speed grille...maybe you could get rid of the latch... so all you need to do is press the release in the cab.

its most definitely a very nice truck, very clean and well taken care of....looks great...you did do a good job with the r/t on the grill and looks good on the back....as for cheesy, no....poserish, kinda ya....we know it isnt an r/t, but others might not.....i really hate seeing people slapping an aftermarket hood on their lt1 v6 firebird, slapping on firehawk badges and firehawk wheels and intake and so on and telling everyone its a firehawk, but then they dont have the rpo code, they have no id # on their dash, their vin doesnt match up yada yada yada....especially at shows....morons.....sorry i got off on a tangent....cheesy, no...poserish...kinda....but that doesnt mean i cant like the truck

its 1 thing to slap on the parts bc u like them, its another to add decals and try to pass it as something it isnt...dont get me wrong, i have nothing against u, and i do love your truck, but do u know what im sayin?

curtiplas
05-02-2007, 11:13 AM
Yeah I know what ur sayin Night Runner, which I get...and I like the truck... I was thinkin about puttin on the R/T badges but I didn't want to for that reason... But, I do want to put on an SRT-6 badge, because I love the SRTs and I wish they made an SRT for the dakota...but they don't so I'll make my own custom SRT hehehe...but I love the decal and I have no intention of passing it off as a Dodge SRT but I do want people to think twice when they look at my Tailgate.

Well, congrats!! You must be looking forward to it. My wife informed me when I was in school that she wants to have another one next year. I'm looking forward to doing that. The practice part is fun already, but the actual thing is even better.

Curtiplas, nto be rude or anything, but if you put the SRT6 badge on the side of ur truck, something tells me ur gonna catch a lotta grief due to it.

I honestly wouldn't do that if I were you. :-\

Yes, the key to it is practice makes perfect!! :DWell, I'm at the point where I am looking forward to it but I'm not. I know that I am going to love it but having to start over on a new one just doesn't sound very fun right now because I know everything that it entails. I'm hoping this one is as good as my first because he was sleeping through the night within 2 months! We are done after this one though. We decided that if we want a girl we are going to adopt one later on.

There was a guy on another website that I used to belong to who was putting in a 6.1L Hemi in his truck. They showed the pictures without the 4.7L and with the HEMI already in it, and he had the SRT8 badge on his truck. That was last year and I don't know what the outcome was in the end.

Curt, I wouldn't worry about it so much, but what I would do is make your truck an SRT6 before you post it as an SRT6. Once you get the performance parts that you want, then you have what it takes to back it up. At the same time, it's your truck.

Yeah I can't afford much more perfomance wise, I have the CAI, and the catback exhaust... I have a 180 tstat ready to be installed but hasn't yet... I'd get headers but they don't make them for the 3.7...that I know of... and I don't really want to get the Jet chip... so yeah... but I really love the SRTs and I'm gonna put the SRT-6 badge on my truck...but if anyone asks I'm not gonna lie... I'll admit its not an SRT -6...when I can afford the Turbo...or prolly Supercharger thenI'll install it but that won't be for a LONG time.

guys i know what you're saying, but basically the 3rd gen dakota r/t has a bolt on hood scoop (which doesn't function), r/t rear stripe, r/t on the speed o,and r/t on the seats head rest . outside of this i have the same truck except mine is a laramie loaded out. as for performance it's got a 4.7 high output which is not exclusive to the r/t. so basically dodge put badges on it and called it a r/t.when i bought my truck in 2005 they didn't have the r/t out yet, and i just don't know if i like the hood scoop or the rear r/t stripe. i think if i have the same performance as the 3rd gen r/t then i can do badges like dodge did. if i had a V6 i wouldn't even think about it. i am hoping to lowering it and do sport suspension (maybe wheels) and performance tires. hope i haven't offended anyone. just pleading my case.

in my opinion (this is with all vehicles), if it doesnt have the rpo, its not a ______. sure, it may be a partial replica. but it isnt an ____ if it doesnt have the rpo. for instance, if you were selling this vehicle in a high profile auction (such as BJ) it would be considered a modified, possibly a replica.

ex:
a 1988 fiero chassis with a testarossa kit may look exactly like the real deal if the job was good enough, but it would be a replica...this would be disclosed to people, and the true identity would not be hidden

im not trying to speak badly of what you are doing and dont want it to appear that way...for all i care, you can pull the seats, gauges, badges ect off an r/t and put them on your truck....now, you might have all these on your truck, but without the rpo, it is still a replica...get what im saying? once again, not bashing, just sayin how it really is...but in my personal opinion, i do not think any vehicle should recieve badges to which it does not contain the rpo code, unless the intent is to make it a replica...now with this, the part that pisses me off is when these replica owners try to pass the vehicles off as a ____ production vehicle and deny it being a replica

does my argument this make sense?

night runner i understand what your saying .thanks forwhat you wrote, i agree totally. when i sell this truck i will pull this stuff off anyway. and if someone ask me about it , i would be quick to tell them it a laramie . i just really like the sport truck look. not eventryingto pass it off as a real r/t. i was up front with you guys about it being a clone from the start ..thanks everyone for all your positive commets and questions , you guys are pretty cool.

i know u werent trying to say it was a real r/t...i was just clarifying the situation in general...as for if u sell it with the decals on or off, it doesnt matter but most definately the new owner should be notified that it is a replica...like i said, i wasnt trying to bash or post that toward you as if u were doing that, i was just talking in generalities

i hope i am not coming off as a dick, as i am not trying to be

Yeah I don't think anyone has a real problem with anyone...sure we get some heated arguments every once and a while...besides isn't that what are Country has come to now...being "Politically Correct" and Polite... it makes me sick.. lol but we're all just tryin to put our 2 cents in and Nightrunner I don't think you're comin off as a dick nor do I think what you said is Wrong, I completely Agree.

And trucky Like I said it makes me sick when I see people protesting/Dissing our Military!

i might have to replace them this summer with some kling's design stuff. the general public in this city hates the military and i feel like my truck is a target now. we'll see.

This is why I've been trying to come up with my own insignia. I went with SUPER DAKOTA on my decal. It's original, and it's how I feel about my truck. So, maybe I should come up with some badges that say S/D.... Hmmmmm.

That's how I personalized my truck. When I get some money, I'm going to do more to it with the emblems for the seats, visors, maybe the hood, etc.

trucky
05-04-2007, 06:51 PM
stone i think you're on to something...i think when i get rid of these air force decals (not stickers) i will get something custom in relation to my dakota...something like 'Ford Eater' or... 'Import Stomper' or... 'Jet Powered'... if you can't go corny go home

Frenchy

Super-turbocharged Dakota.

That's what it has to say....

And then get a HEMI emblem, and post em on ur sides.. in a location similar to the ones on the Hemi Rams...

I had local truck shop install 4 Husky molded flaps for $80.00. the fit around and below the factory painted fronts and have standard large molded rears.. They could be painted but I preferred the blend with the tires.

Took some pics!

No night runner, they come black as in the dark grey that is the color of the side view mirrors. I didnt paint mine because I liked them black. For your setup you would want them painted though.

jabo2lhs , nice truck . those are nice husky mud guards , was wondering what they looked like, thanks for the pics. i like how they add to the front ones. they look like they would really protect your truck and help keep it clean. i see you have the 275/60/17, what kind of goodyears are they ? how are they holding up ? and do you like them ?

Thanks I just got the truck in March. I went in to the truck shop for rear mud flaps and the guy said "Don't you want the fronts too?"

I said it had factory fronts and he just laughed and show me these.

Yea I think the will do a great job. I didn't want to color match them. I think they just blend into the tires this way and it's easier to scrub the road crap off.

The tires are
Goodyear Eagle RS-A (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+RS-A&partnum=76HR7RSA&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1 =yes&place=2&speed_rating=T&speed_rating=U&speed_r ating=H&speed_rating=V&speed_rating=Z&speed_rating =W&speed_rating=Y&minSpeedRating=T)
(High Performance All-Season (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/types/hpas.jsp))

They are crap! Only 10K on them and they look like maybe in another 10K they will be gone. They don't stick at all. You would think that a tire that wears out in 20K should be soft enough to stick to the road. The only good thing is they are quiet and ride smooth.

I'll probably switch to these when I need new ones

I have those Michelins on my ford escape with 18000 miles on them and they look brand new when cleaned up. I love them, Great in wet and snow. Costco had a great price on them, and often has rebates.
