Default 2004 Ram HEMI owners

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. I purchased my Ram on the 17th of Aug. The truck has been running fine and I've had no problems. However, when I was coming into work today my check engine light came on. I checked all the fluids and everything was fine, I haven't experienced anything abnormal from the truck. So has anyone else experienced this?

I do not have a new hemi but check engine lights come on for many reason such as a miss , bad spark plug , bad gas can sometimes do it. If you live around any AutoZone or Napa they can hook up to your computer and get the code out and tell you what your computer is thinking. Free of charge. try that it might be something very simple. I would take it in to the dealership. I don't know about you, but I don't trust my pride and joy to someone working behind the counter at an auto parts store.

I'm going to take it to the dealer on Monday (under warranty still). I was just wondering if this was a common occurance or something I should be concerned about. Thanks for the reply and suggestions. BTW, I'm an R. Phillips to, my first name is Robert.

All they do is plug a hand held scanner into the port down by the gas pedal and it tells you a code then the code tells you the problem. But the dealership should be able to get in your pocketbook a little deeper. Russell from TN

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm going to take it to the dealer since I still have warranty. If it wasn't for that I would probably go to Auto Zone myself. That's a harmless test that anyone could do with the right tools. I'll post what I find out when I get it back from the dealership.

The dealership should never charge you for anything during the warranty period except for wear items (like tires/belts) and servicing (oil changes/chasis lube). I would reccomend not going to auto zone et al because they delete your codes when they read them... which means when you do go to the dealership, which you will they will not have acess to them. Even if the light comes back on after it is reset, they will not have complete information... for example the code the first time could be for misfire left cylinder bank, and the second one could be for fuel mixture too rich. Seeing both coes could leqad the mechanic to a different conclusion to seeing just one...

Mine did the same thing.....make sure your gas cap is on tight! Felt pretty stupid after taking it to the dealership.
