I have a 93 ES and the car has the following symptoms: 1:When the engine is cold, the car will stall out when you dont give it gas, once you get going, it won't stall again for a couple hours. 2: Some times when I get on the gas, the car will kind of stutter. I have read several of the posts here but just want to make sure its the ECU. If it is, how to you check, replace it?

Also, sometimes the car will idle a 2000 RPM or just keep revving from 15-2000 RPMS

If you need a new or rebuilt ECU check out Avpro. you can find them on the net. I thought that my ECU was bad and sent it to them and they tested it and it was fine. they sent my ECU back with all my money. really nice people, nick was the one i dealt with.

I would choose ecmtogo.com, I found that most of the 3S community goes to them for ecm and tcu problems.

Many people have said that AVPro is good too. I would not hesitate to use either one of them.

Allright thanks but I don't have another car to drive while the ecu is being looked at so I dont know what to do. if i continued to drive it like it is right now, would it screw the engine up?

if you keep driving it probably will not help, but i don't think it can really mess things up(at least according to discriptions)

Search Stealth316.com for ISC or IAC. That is your idle air controller. It is worth checking out, they wear out or get gunk on them and don't work right. If your ECU capacitors are leaking, it will eventually damage your ECU beyond repair. The electrolyte the leaks out of them is caustic and will start to eat away the PCB. It is easy to check. Remove both pieces of carpet on the center console, the ECU is bolted on, on both sides. Remove the bolts, unplug the harness, remove 4 screws on the ECU cover, remove and inspect all the capacitors for any discoloration around their base. Search Stealth316 for detailed instructions and pictures on what to look for. You can see if a chain parts store can get you an ECU. I picked one up at Oreilly's for about the same price as getting one rebuilt. Beware however, the first one I got from them did not work, the second one has been working for over a year without issue. note: I would copy/paste the links for you too Stealth316, but for some reason my browser won't let me copy/paste on this forum. Works fine everywhere else, just not here...go figure.
