Good Afternoon. 1st time post.  I was hoping for some guidance on an issue I am having. I purchased an 05 RT with 12K miles. The vehicle had 20" MKW wheels with Pirelli rubber. The steering wheel seems to shake a bit at 60mph +. I have had the wheels balanced, rotated, and an alignment done. I took the car to Dodge and it's not the brakes or suspension. I went back to the tire shop and they said one wheel was bent. I purchased a new set of Helo wheels Saturday but it still shakes. Any ideas? I hope I didn't waste $1000 on wheels I didn't need. The shop still tells me the tires are not the issue. What else could it be? Thanks in advance !

Sounds like a wheel balance issue to me.  Are you having the same guys balance them each time?  Ive had experiences where the dealer, discounttire, nor firestone could get it right.  I finally went to a Good year service center and they finally got them correct.  I just put a new set of wheels and tires on my R/T and Discount tire got it right on the first attempt this time.  Other forum members may have other advice.....

Thanks for the reply. I had discount tire drive the car last night. The also noticed the slight shake around 60mph. They removed the tires from the wheels and rebalanced again. Driving home last night it wasn't any better. It's not a terrible shake, it just doesn't feel right. I traded my 02 E430 sport in on the Dodge so some of this could be the fact that my previous car was the smoothest vehicle I have ever owned. Maybe I just need to get used to the ride and come to the realization that it may be built on the same chassis, but it's no Benz. If anyone knows of a good shop that may be able to look at my issue in the Phoenix area let me know.

I Also noticed a slight vibration at high speeds. Taking, my Intrepid had these crap tires - I switched to another tire and ratio. I just put on 255/55/18 109V tire. Been a few days and it has made a difference. I've seen other posts about something to add to the steering bolt or something. 2006 RT/AWD with Falken Z01 255/55/18... I'll keep everyone updated to the progress of this set.

I have an 06 Magnun R/T and it has the same issue. 60+ MPH and the front end shakes and you can feel it in the steering wheel. IT has been getting a little worse over a course of a month now. Yesterday, it started making a noise when you turned to the right or left. Took it to the dealer today and they said the rack and pinion is going out on it. they are going to replace the whole unit. Will see if this fixes the problem with the vibration.

Has anyone proved the exact cause of this vibration?

I'm curious, my Magnum is still under factory warranty, so I'm planning on taking it in the dealership to get what ever needs to be replaced, replaced. The wheel shakes at 60+ but only on some surfaces. Occasionally, I'll be going 60-80 and on certain parts of the free it'll quit shaking.

having had the same issue I have lots of info for you.

Chrysler 300 and Magnum 's are notorious for that.
You can have the car aligned, wheels balanced and it will still do it to some extent.
There is a TSB from dodge, since the car does not really align, and you need to purchase some adjusting bolts to shift the craddle and hence be able to align.
I did that....it did not work.
My issues began after I put on my 20".
A friend of mine owns a shop and we tried numerous times to align the car, we were not successfull at every single atempt, it was then when we found out that in order to align it, we would need to replace the top A arms for some where the ball joint would allow for some adjustment. The parts were like 300/each arm.
After doing this, the vibration was 90% gone and the alignment was perfect; however, since magnum has independent suspension on all four wheels, then the issue became the back. The back was within normal limits but I wanted my to be 0 degrees. I bought some other parts to properly align the back.
When talking with a service advisor at the stealership, he confirmed what I had been reading about those two vehicles having issues with alignment and that the TSB all it did was shift the craddle, which in some cases took care of the issue, but if you were running aftermarket wheels, it did nothing.

if you want the part numbers for both the front and the back parts I purchased to align, let me know and I will try to locate the receipts.

Good luck!!!!

ps: at the time when I got rid of my magnum, the vibration was starting again, I had the wheels balanced and re-did the alignment (which since my friend own the shop was free) and the car came back to perfection.
However, it had only been 6 months since I had previously done it...so it would be an expensive thing to have to be doing every 6 months.
