Hi guy's, i'm sorry i haven't been active lately but I've been very busy.I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to put this topic but i've been reading your topics and replies and you guys (and girls) really seem to know what your talking about.

anyway, I have a '91 Stealth ES, bone stock. People say that it would not be possible to build my car to run thirteens in the 1/4. I was wondering if you all could please tell me otherwise. I can't put a new engine in my car or anything like that but how much HP would some cams give me(DOHC 24V) and i'm also debating whether to run nitrous of buy a supercharger for it(wouldn't be any time soon but a possibility). The nos i would run would be dry and no more than a 175hp shot. If you all think that this is remotely possible then please let me know. When ever i get a pic of the car i'll be sure to post it.

Well, you've already got a good start with it being the ES. The 3.0L DOHC in the ES are 222hp, not a bad starting point. The only drawback to the 222 hp is the cars weight(3,300-3,400LBS), my Roadrunner is only 350-450LBS heavier. Superchargers are nice , but turbos usually provide bigger gains and since the R/T's had twin turbos as an option parts are readily available. You can get into the 13's without power adders. Your usual mods should be sufficient. Free up the exhaust with headers, a good high flow mandrel bent exhaust, if you can run true dual exhaust and free flow catalytic converters. Cold air induction, intake manifold, larger injectors, upgraded computer, and cams are also good. If you can, get the heads ported and polished and larger valves with stiffer springs. If you want to go with nitrous, use as little as is needed to reduce wear from the shock the nitrous has on an engine. Some people say theres nothing wrong with using nitrous, which is true if it's used in moderation. Too many people want easy power and bolt up a nitrous kit that doubles their power and are left wondering why there are holes in their hood and pistons in space. Also on the nitrous note, I was at the track when someone that just made a pass was waiting to get his time slip and shut the car off to get it, but when he started the car back up there was still a little nitrous in the intake and the intake exploded sending the shrapnel through the hood and into one of the officials chest. Luckily enough the official only suffered burns as the shrapnel lost most of it's velocity going through the hood, so trust me less is more with nitrous.
If a normally aspirated Neon can turn 10's and 11's, then I'm sure your Stealth can turn 13's.

hey thanx for the good news. i needed to here something possitive about buying this car. However, i looked at the specs on this car and it suposedly weighs in at 2650lbs. It says that on my door anyway but i don't know the truth of it really. Where do you think i could get these parts at. Not many sites sell stealth mods and i really don't want to buy from a dealership. Thank you though the advice is very helpful and i will defenitly follow it for a start.

I am not sure why I am even posting to this topic but I just wanted to tell you something we found out about nos!! I don't know anything about what you are wanting more power for but if you are going to run at a track and not a straight away then you don't want the nos system. They won't even let guys run at the track here if there is even a hook up in the car?? I am not sure if all tracks are the same but just an FYI in case!!

Also, I know that quick power (like that which comes from nos)is hard to say noto but a sleeperat the track is always so much more exciting than ones that you know what they have under the hood because of all the stickers plastered all over the car!! But that is just my opinion!!

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. Nice forum though :) I am the owner of Speed Factor, a 3000GT/Stealth specialty shop. I think maybe I can shed some light on this topic and help you out :)

1st, there's only 2 ways you are going to get your NA stealth into the 13's. 1. NOS and a s**tload of bolt ons. 2. Add some type of forced induction (Turbos or SC)

To do the 1st, you will need almost every bolt on available. We have some very good staged upgrades on our website that you may want to take a peak at, but I will try to give you a good place to start at here.

1st thing you need to do is open up both ends of the car. Intake and full exhaust. I only sell and recommend K&N intakes, but you can get cheaper ones on ebay. I am just a firm believer in you get what you pay for, and if those other intakes were JUST LIKE K&N's as they say they are, they WOULD INDEED be charging K&N money for them. But just my .02 cents ;) As for the exhaust, go with a 2 1/2" mandrel bent DP, get rid of the cat with a 2 1/2 testpipe and then get a 2 1/2" mandrel cat-back. There aren't any headers available for the 3/S NA's, so you can scratch that one, plus you dont really need them. The stealth was made with VERY efficent manifolds and heads. One of the few places mitsu didn't cut corners on. But anyway. After you let the car breathe, you can add an underdrive pulley and a little more fuel. We recommend going with a set of 360cc VR4 injectors and an Apexi S-AFC, as well as a walbro 255lph fuel pump. You will need to get a resistor to run the injectors, but you can get one new for $63 or grab one from someone selling one from a VR4. Next thing you will want to do is upgrade your clutch and get a fidanza Alum. flywheel. The fidanza alum. FW is probably one of the best mods you can do to your NA stealth. Another thing we STRONGLY recommend you do, and if possible, do it when you do the clutch and FW, is aQuaife LSD. The 3/S FWD trannys aren't that bad, however, the open end stock differential sucks. They are KNOWN for the pin coming loss and sending your diff threw your bell housing. The Quaife LSD is a closed limited slip differential. It will help you will tractions, as it gives an equal 50/50 power distribution to both front wheels, versus only one wheel getting all the power with your stock diff. So, the LSD definitely will help you will traction, plus it eliminates the headache of worrying about your tranny blowing. Plus, the quaife LSD has a LIFETIME warranty, EVEN if you race. The only down side to the LSD is, if you have a 91 oe 92 3/S, you will have to change to 93+ 3/S FWD axles and intermediate shaft, but you can pick them up for pretty cheap or new ones from autozone for like $80 each. You also want to make sure your car is technically sound before making more power. The 3/S cars are pretty good cars, but there are a few things you need to be on point with. 1. Do your timing belt, tensioner, the 2 pulleys and water pump EVERY 60000 miles, LIKE ITS CLOCKWORK!!!!!!! Other than that, you should always do the oil pump every other 60k service. You may want to upgrade to some aftermarket wires too. As for plugs, stay with the OEM mitsubish NGK plats. (You can get all your parts for your car from mitsu, since they basiclly made the car. Also, we sell all OEM mitsu parts at 25% off, and I will soon be doing the same for all chrystler and dodge parts too) You can add an upgraded ignition system, such as an HKS DLI or a MSD DIS 4. That will get your car into the mid to low 14's depending on how well you can drive, plus, they are heavy (3250lbs. - 3350lbs. is the weight on a stock NA stealth) After that, add the juice. You have upgraded fuel so you will be safe to run AT MOST a 100 shot of dry NOS. A 50-75 shot will probably be better on the longevity of the motor, but you can safely run a 100 shot. I did many of times ;) hehehe To date, the NA FWD 3/S record with a 100 shot of NOS 13.6 I think the all motor, no NOS NA FWD 3/S record is 14.1

Now, if you really want to make power, then you need to do a Twin turbo conversion. We have a 91 Stealth ES that we did a full VR4 TT motor swap conversion with. Our used to be 222 crank hp ES, now puts down over 500 HP to the front wheels. There are 2 ways you can do that conversion though. 1 is by doing a full TT motor, wiring harness and ECU conversion, and the other is by adding turbos to you 10:1 compression NA motor. Obviously you will have more power ptential with the TT motor swap, but it is definitely more costly as well. If you would ever become interested in that type of thing, give me a call. I'd be more than happy to talk to you about your options there :)

Well, I've wrote a mini novel already, so I guess I'll take off for now. If you ever need any help with your stealth, feel free to check out our website, shoot me an email or give me a call at the shop. All my shop info is in my sig.

Good luck and enjoy the stealth!!!!!!!!

Ricers are all show and no, or at least very little, go. If you were to get a really big muffler/exhaust tip, big wheels, lowered, body kit/ground effects, huge wing, lots of lights(hood, neons, etc.), and more stickers with only one or two actual performance modifications, then yes. My R/T is all go, little to no show, so far.

The biggest problem I know of with a TT converted Stealth is traction. You can get all the power you need, hooking up at the track is different story though. An LSD helps quite abit, but I do not think anyone has really tried to do serious suspension upgrades for drag racing. I think the fastest FWD Stealth/3000 ran a 12.06 at 105+. Good luck with your mods. and prove that wrong wheel drive cars are not so bad

hello, i am very new to the forum.. actually this is my first one ever! =) buuuut i figured i'de try it... i have a 1991 dodge stealth es also.. it's black. =) it's in kinda rough shape, motor wise... body looks basically flawless.... i need parts for it though... like.. orriginal peices for the cd console.. it was ripped out when i bought it.. i have a cd player to put in it... but even with that there.. there is a huge gap missing still!=\ sooo where would i beable to go to get things like that.?.?.? and also.. wat is the round about lifespan of these cars??? mines already at 151,000 miles.. i don't know how much longer it has left.. i'm planning on dropping a brand new engine into it when it dies.... soo i'm just wonderring how much longer i have =)

as for a trim pieces look at few threads where people are parting out their cars.
As for a lifespan of these cars, mine got 190k miles on it and it feels like it's going to die in about 20-50k. Some of them can run up to 300k miles but more than likily the motor would be falling apart. About 5k miles ago my motor started to run rought and louder than before. I think it's time to go from 5w-30 to good old 20w-40 that i have to use on my bird. My compression was in ok range about 30k miles ago and oil pressure is about at 30 psi(assuming the middle on the gage is 30 like other normal cars).

There are a few theories as to why it didn't make it. One has something to do with the value of the yen to the dollar, making them expensive to import. The other is that they were not selling well, so they were axed. Another, the performance was too close to the Viper at the time and Dodge didn't want the public to lose interest in it's "halo" car.
What the real reason is...only Dodge knows.
I hope they never resurrect the name. They would probably attach it to some 4 door sedan or crossover vehicle or something.
Oh, and it has been my experience, many "Dodge" fans don't care for their Mitsubishi cousin. ;)

as for finding out if it's factory or not, usually you can tell if it's been repainted. You can look at the door and there should be a sticker stating the original color. I don't think it would be classic any time soon. Dodge was very quick to forget the car and every dealership or dodge related place will not know about it until you point to them the dodge badge. Their website have every car except dodge stealth(last time i looked). I think the main reason it was droped is because the base model is a poor performer but looks good. It's a bit on a heavy side as well. Converting from es to tt with 5 speed some times will cost more than buying a good rt/tt plus you would have awd. But if you do the conversion you feel better because you maid it fast. If the es looks like the base model from the back then that would be a plus for me instead of buying rt/tt because personaly i am not a big fan off back/corner/fender/hatch taillights
EDIT: personally i am not a big fan of banana on the back of the car either...
but it does have an unique look

if you give me your email i can send you the cd version, it's just few adobe files. Covers the motor and the body. Electrical as well.
As for puting true dual will make it meaner. Without turbos i wish i kept mine at single. When i went to true duals it sounded better up to 4k rpm but then it sounded worce than those civics driving around. Thestealth pointed out a while back that with turbos the exhaust will be much quiter. So having true dual with turbos might actually be ok. The only way to get the muscle car sound is to drop a v8 in there. I gave up on geting good exhaust note and bought a firebird. Now i am just waiting untill i can affor a v8 swap.
EDIT: forgat about awd. If you get turbo swap with some performance part and get about 400hp you will have a lot of torque steer. You would need to run wide tires upfront. For me with base v6 205 wide tires actually were giving some torqe steer problems and handling was poor. After i went to 245 wide in the front and back ihad no problems except i still have about 150hp :(
Another thing: with front wheel drive cars when you take off the weight transfers to the back creating less traction up the front. If you want to keep it fwd then put some tight springs at the back to reduce the weight transfer

Your idea to get the ES into the 13 sec. range is a good one, but if you want to have a car that'll hold its value better through the years definitely look into a true R/T TT. As mentioned, there's been a ton of FWD TT conversions, but it's that much harder to put the extra power to use without putting the tires up in smoke. I have owned my '91 Stealth R/T TT for only about a month now, but let's just say for being my first AWD car it's a blast to drive for what I paid. While their prices are substantially low compared to when they sold new (~$31,000-$32,500), these cars should do well in the next ten years or so. (Or so I hope) The way I look at it is these cars (the Stealth R/T TT & VR-4) will be acknowledged as "modern day" muscle cars (yeah, it's kind of hard to grasp being a fan of the old school V-8s), so price levels should begin increasing and ultimately justifies throwing money at them to get them performing their best along with getting them looking very nice. (IE: no Ricer options should be added.)

Waiting for a TT model would be best, if you plan on doing any substantial modifications. You can dump a ton of money in the NA platform, and never be "fast."
I don't know if these cars will ever rise to the status of muscle cars, as far as value goes. Stealths are kinda like a step child to Dodge. The only ones that may see a significant rise in value will be the TT models. The 96's will be worth more than any, due to their low production number, 57.
I doubt mine will ever be worth much, simply because it is very high mileage, almost 200k. I don't care however, I bought the car to drive and enjoy, not as an investment.

I am admin at one website and can upload files so there will be no ads or anything, just the link to the file. I'll post it in here as soon as i have it up. It havn't been a good day for me today, got a citiation for runing a red light when i clearly ran a yellow light. this is frustrating.

ok...i still have not uploaded the files due to havinga very bad day. First i got that citiation thing then i went to work and on my way back i get a call and sommething about somebody driving into my apartment... I race down to my apartment to find a small crowd of people and 98 mitsu galant parked in one of the rooms in my apratment. It's been a hectic day and i am sorry that i have not been able to get the files up. It's been the last thing that i thought of today after geting locks to put on my room and moving somme things around because of the hole in the apartment building. Having to stay in on of the apartments near as well so i don't even have anything together.
now i do have pictures and will try to upload them tomorrow with the rest of the story
EDIT: ok, i'm geting the file uploaded, it's a zip file and i think you would have to use some sort of download manager or right click on the link and select save as. It is only going to be up for 48 hours. Well, now that this is done i can go back and figure out what to do with car size hole in the apartment.

the manual is 92-94 but first gen is 91-93 and second gen is 94-96(i belive) so you should be covered. I also have seperate manuals for the engine that mitsu made, i can post it up as well. Changing the spark plugs and injectors will help but if problem is else where your spark plugs will get bad again. As far as oil burning it is a good possibility that it is the vaulve seals. Check the ecu. I remember at one point of time my gas gage went crazy and for two weeks according to the gage i was geting about 5 miles to a gallon. Also do a comression test, that can give you a lot of information on how the insides look.

ok, well i blew off buying the injectors because if i did the work and that wasn't the problem i would be mad.. soo i am going to bring it to the dodge dealership and have run a full diagnostic test... sooooooo hope then i know wat i need to do.. also i need a few sun spots painted.. but they 3,000 to paint the car.. but all together i only need about 4sqft painted.. so i'll see wat they will get me for that.. how is the apartment situation going man??

last time i took my stealth to a dealership they told me it's $75 to check it out and i walked out simply because i had no money lol. To paint the sunspot depending on location, but if on the hood you can tape everything off, sand some clear coat off then put 2 coats of paint on faded spot trying to spray about a coat on the rest of the hood to match the paint and then put 3 coats of clear. You can't just paint one spot and get it to match. If you tape evrything off and bring the car with bumpers taken off you might get it painted cheaper.
When i painted my spoiler it did not perfectly match. It's just slightly brighter than the rest of the car. The best way to paint panels is to paint the whole car.If you do the sanding and body work it should cost way less because most of the time is spent in prep work.
got the hole patched up from the inside, they have to custom make the new window and put the brick back up, inside apartment is a mess i need to rearange everything because all the valuable stuff was taken out to other apartments while there was a whole, here are few links to the pics that are more clear:

the paint shop that i went to sold me all kind of stuff including spray paint, bondo, thinner and mixed paint when i took body class in local college, i was 16 then.Later when i was 17 i went to wal mart to buy some spray paint and found out that i have to be 18 to buy it...
A friend of mine painted his truck outside and it didn't come out perfect, in fact it's peeling off after a year and a half. The paint cured too fast and shrinked pulling it self from the primer.
