I just recently rebuilt my engine and tranny for my Shelby and it has solved most of the problems I was having with it except for the most anoying one: on some days when I start it it will start fine but stall. If I keep on the throttle it will go and after awhile it runs just fine. I have taken it to several mechanics as well as done what my manual suggested but nothing helps! Does anyone have an idea what it could be?!? Also does anyone know where I can find a diagram for the vaccum lines for my year and model? ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE MUCH APPRECIATED

List the things you have replaced already.

Possibilities include sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, coolant temp sensor, and check codes.
There should be a vacuum hose diagram on the underside of the hood.

I replaced everything except the temp sensor so i'll try that. There arent any codes and I would use the diagram under the hood but I am actually looking for the original hood because it was replaced with a different hood. I guess there was damage to it and they couldn't find one so they just put one that was close to it

This is going to sound stupid but did you check the oil level or have you changed the oil recently? That was happening to my friend's Grand Marquis and an oil change fixed it. Does it stall when you idle or when you drive around?

That's not a bad question, I have been keeping an eye on the oil level it's cool. It is new oil it only has 700 miles on it since I put it in after the rebuild. It will stall when trying to idle or when I stop when driving. But if I keep on the gas it will get me around. After driving it for awhile it runs fine and idles great... It's the weirdest thing! And it does it randomly with no warning....

hmmm have you checked the IAC valve (idle air valve)?

You might want to chage your fuel filter, itcould be clogged. That would starve the engine of fuel.

I would just replace every vaccum line on the thing. If it wont idle without keeping your foot on the gas, then thats a dead giveaway that its a vaccum leak somewhere.How long was your car sitting during the rebuild? And did you re-use any of the vaccum lines?My scrambler was doing the same thing after I bought it, and it sat without being driven for a few months till I sold my other truck and all the seals dried up in the carb. A full teardown and rebuild of the carb solved it. Im pretty sure yours is fuel injected, but there may be some rubber seal in the injectors thats partially dry rotted.

Thanks for all the help guys. I will try changing the idle air valve and I am working on going through all thevaccum lines. I did change the fuel filter when I origanally bought the car. I did change all the o-ring on the fuel injectors and put some more fuel injector cleaner. It looks like I will have to spend some time going thru all the vaccum lines LOL I did reuse some of them but most were replaced because they were VERY worn. Probably werent touched since 88. I just have to find the diagram that fits my engine now. Thanks for all your feed back!
