Hi all.   I have a 1995 intrepid and this is what led up to the Big Screw Up! My car was running smooth for about a year and out of the blue it started sputtering and hesitating so I thought, fuel filter! I replaced it and the car ran a lot smoother but still sputtered a bit. I got new plugs and replaced 5 and at the 6th plug, the one at the back passenger side, was tougher then the others as you well know and while installing the new plug I cross threaded the plug and trashed the threads on the block so I went a got a plug rethread kit and rethreaded the block being very careful not to contaminate the cylinder. I got everything buttoned up and fired it up, it cranked and BANG!! That is pretty much the way it sounded. The car will not turn over. I backed the flywheel up and tried again and got the same thing. I pulled the plug I rethreaded and it was smashed! What the @#$* I removed all the plugs and tried turning it over again and got the same thing. What is the problem? Did something, maybe a valve break? Sorry for the long drawn-out post but I’m a little stressed right now.   Any insight is much appreciated.   Lance.

I am not familiar with that head but it might be possable the between the stripping and rethreading a valve seat may have worked lose and is now holding a valve open which the piston is hitting.
Pull your valve cover off and look at the valves on that cylinder to see if one off them is open.
