Default performance improvment

hello, I'm planning to get some mods for my 2002 SLT 4X4 Durango
for example a borla exhaust system
and replace the original air filter with maybe a K&N
is that a good or a bad step to take?
and is there any other good steps to take for the durango?

Those are both good steps to take. Next you would want a larger TB from www.thefastman.com and a programmer. The possibilities are endless it just all depends on ho much $ you want to spend on the D.

Fastman = good mod Programmer is next on my list. Cams would be nice if I could install them myself, but I know my limits. Too cheap to buy them and pay all that labor to install them.

Jaymzz,

Making your Durango breathe easier is the cheapest and easiest mod as a first mod. You can start with a oem replacement K&N air filter for around $60. Or go with a cold air intake kit. If you like to stick with the OEM name under the hood, Mopar makes Cold air intake kits as well.
Next would be uprading your exhaust to compliment your air intake mods. Better performing muffler or even do to true duals if it is in your budget. GSM makes true duals direct bolt on for gen1 durangos. Next is replacing the throttle body with a bigger one.

And after all of that get a high flow cat if you don't have to worry about emissions. Getting some bigger gears in the diff/s is a good step but can be very costly especially if you have 4wd/awd as you would have to change both the front and rear gears.

As long as you keep your foot out of the floor you will actually save gas. Your motor will generate more power and then the motor doesn't have to work as hard to move your rig. Thus actually saving fuel. But if you put your foot into it like I do then it will decrease. If I stay out of it on the freeway running at 80 I've gotten up to 17.3 MPH and I have the 392 rear end and rolling 31-10.50 LT 15 all terrain Big’O tires.

Agree. If you have a bigger throttle body, yes, it can get thirsty only if you make it thirsty. But if you are light on the pedal, you save more gas. Just remember, air is what makes power and efficiency, not gas. So the better your engine breathes from intake to exhaust, the better your engine will perform and will be more efficient on gas at all power levels.
