ok i thought a nce big racing tach would look good in a intrepid lol ok but the instructions say to hook these wires up to these places
Black --- Ground
White --- Light source
Red --- 12V Switch on(when u start the car thats when it sends power to the tach)
Green --- To Tach Source, either distributor (my car is distributor less.) so i tryed hooking it up to the wires that plug in to the original gauges. but still nothing.
so now im lost.. could anyone tell me which wire i would hook up where? im mostly lost with the green wire.

OK for TAC source (green) you said either the distributor or... what was the other source? As for howit works, in the old days (prior to computers) they were basically frequency meters. The reason to hook it up to the distributor was as the pulse signal drawed power, it caused a fluctuation in the power (a freq) that could be translated as RPM. Now it's computer controlled. Here is a quote for the TACH out of a current manual:
TACHOMETER
DESCRIPTION
Refer to Electrical, Instrument Cluster, Description
for more information.
OPERATION
The tachometer receives its information across the
PCI Bus from the Body Control Module (BCM). Information
on engine RPM is transmitted from the Powertrain
Control Module (PCM) across the PCI Bus to
the BCM. The BCM calculates the position of the
tachometer pointer based on the input from the PCM
and adjusts the position of the gauge pointer to the
necessary position. This signal is sent over the PCI
Bus to the instrument cluster.
In a nutshell, the PCI bus is a computer communication system. If the TACH you bought isn't meant for this type of interface, I don't think you can hook it up to a “distributorless system”. That is unless they mention another method to hook up that green wire.

it does say that "this gauge can be hooked up to a distibutorless system"

Cool! Follow it's instructions then and it should work fine.
