hey all im in the midst of installing my shackles as i type this, took a lil break, all i have to say is pb-blaster & wd-40 are the greatest things ever

haven't had to replace any of the bolts, and i bought 10 washers to be safe, so far it looks like i only need the 8 suggested, 3 on the top bolt and one on the bottom, per shackle of course (will take pics of shackles with washers)

full shackle

at leaf

at frame

also the nuts are 13/16" in size

if you are having a hard time with any of the bolts, mess with the bottle jack, when you move the leaf it will either add stress or reduce stress on the bolts either making it harder or easier to remove, 2 whacks with a hammer and i could pull them out by hand

and i hope everyone remembered to grease their shackles before putting them on

stock

after shackles

hey,
i did my T/S lift last weekend... what i found to be the best way to get the leaf springs down was to slide ur foot in the wheel well behind the tire and put ur foot on the top of the leaf and than get someone to hit the bolts while u jump up and down on them... worked like a charm.... and hey dont forget to torque those bolts up again in a few days... wouldnt wanna loose a shackle... That would be NO FUN

Nice job... I wish this much info was on the board before I started my lift.

My D is a '99 , hence the problems I had with seized bolts.

All I have left to do is install my Westin brush guard and lights (coming in 6 weeks)

i think we should make a sticky thread with your write up and my pics, as a reference for any other members who decide to do this later on

jsut noticed something.

so i was measuring out my height in all for corners, ground to bottom of fender flare and center of wheel to bottom of flare, and i noticed my driver side (front) is sitting 1/2" lower then the passenger side (front)

i did my pass. side first and i know i got all 8 turns, i think i lost count and miscounted (under counted) on the driver side... how should i correct this? or is anyone elses sitting a lil lower on that side due to the gas tank (my best guess as to the difference if i counted right on both sides)

i'm running a 265/70/16 tire and on my pass. side theres about 22.5" from center of wheel to bottom of fender flare, and about 22" on the driver

anyone wanna measure theres and let me know what they got?

You prolly just miscounted.  Crank the drivers up another 2 turns.  Torsion bars sag over time, and are designed to be "cranked" to make up for this sag....It may be the case that the drivers side has sagged more over time than the passengers side, so you may have started with un-equal heights up front.  If your D usually has only 1 person in it, the extra 200lbs over the drivers side may cause that side to sag more over time.

Crank one up 1 turn, the other down 1 turn......1/4 inch wont make that much of a difference

I have just been reading this thread and debating whether I should do the T/S lift and I think I found my answer. For those of you who did it, where do you order the new shackles from. I am already running Dunlop 32" R15 Mud Rover tires and I love em, all I need now is the lift to be complete for what I do. Any help as to where to buy would be great.

33 x 9.5 x 15 is a pretty uncommon size of tire.  What brand did you go with?  BFG mud TA?  isnt 33 10.5 15 or 33 12.5 15 the norm for tires??

all you had to do was slide the bumper forwards a bit to clear your 33's?

its late, and I'm tired, forgive my unending questions.
