ok, so i wanna lower my 90' 2wd dakota, but im not sure how much, i wanna do 17" or 18" rims with low pros on them. also a true lowering kit isnt in the budjet right now so i was wondering how would she drive after just cutting the front coils and taking a leaf or two outta the back? And finally if i drop it 4" how much do i cut off the front coils and how much do i take off the leafs?

I would not take out the leafs. I would just put powering blocks on them. I have 3" blocks on mine and you wouldnt want to go any bigger then that. and I cut my front coils for about 1-2" in the front.

ok, i was just out side looking at my truck and a 3" front and back would do my nicely, b/c i wanna do 17" with low pros so around 24" overall. Now to get the 3" drop up front cut off 3 inches? and how did u do the blocks in the back, you got any pics? did you replace your shocks? how does it handal compaird to before?

I dont have any pics of the blocks in place but they just fit in between the axle and the leafs. I bought a 3" lowering block kit from beltech for like $70 and it came with new U bolts too. it took like 1/2 hour to do. I took them out for winter so I could have more ground clearance and I will be putting them back in in the next couple weeks.

as for the front just take the spring out and cut them with a chop saw. I forget howmuch I cut off mine.

and I never did get new shocks yet. I dont think I will till I put the 318 in it. right now its just my beater. and the truck has always rode like crap, then again... its probly just the roads around here[:@]

ok, this is nice and helpful. So you recomend getting the block kit then? you have link for that? and how long did it take to do the front? would a Ball joint Flip be easyer and quicker to do?

from the sounds of this it would be a nice weekend project.

I just did mine the other day and cut 1.5 coils off the front and it gave me 2.5" of drop and added 3" blocks in the rear. The block can come from any auto parts store for about 35 bucks. and have instructions and are very easy to install. on the front the cutting of the coils isnt to bad but a ball joint flip isnt going to do you any good. I am trying to add images, if it work there are before and afters and one of the blocks. now on the befores it had the blocks in the rear but nothing in the front.

Honestly I am not sure about the ball joint flip, but they are one on the bottom points up and the one on top points down so I think the flip of the top ball joint would not be helpful but it would put alot of non needed stress on it. and to flip the bottom I would think would only give you lift and stress.

I wont lie to you after cutting the coils the ride is a little more harsh but the handling is a ton better it feel like a car as apposed to a truck. However its only been a week so as for the extra stress on the ball joints from the increased angle I am not sure yet.
