Default transmission shifting

I have a 99 durango that has just started shifting funny. It is only between 1 & 2 gear. Sometimes it shifts fine other times it acts like it slips when shifting. I read a few other post about the speed sensor but I don't have any check lites coming on. Any suggestions.

Thanks,
easy

sounds like your dead on. I've read other people had the same problem with no lights. It's worth a try. http://www.autoclinic.net welcome to the boards

I replaced the speed sensor and it did seem to help with the shifting but it still doesn't feel totally right. Sometimes it wants to downshift right after it shifts from 1st-2nd when its under a good load. If I'm driven normal , it seems to do fine. The guy at autozone said there was a primary speed sensor but it was out of stock. I wonder if it is because alot of people are replacing them? Are there anymore sensor that I should be looking for?

TPS throttle position sensor. grey sensor on the throttle body. usually with the speed sensor your speedometer goes out too.

I have changed both the speed sensor and throttle position sensor with no luck. Any other suggestions?

Default RE: transmission shifting

My transmission went to limp mode after pulling a uhaul trailer (this was a small single axle trailer with only 1 sofa in it) for a couple of days. After dropping off the trailer back to Uhaul, the transmission never shifted like it used to. Seems like I was always pulling something and also the transmission seems to shift when it should not. Eventually on the 2nd day after I pulled that trailer, the check engine light came on and my transmission would not leave 1st gear.

Dealer check and then had to replace the governor switches. Re-flashed my PCM which is covered under emmissions warranty. Looking at my service receipt, there was a TSB on the PCM. It says "FLASH PCM PRE TSB 18-006-03".

This was for my 2000 Durango R/T.

Since then, and after replacing the Throttle position sensor, the R/T shifts and runs really great.

Is there anyway that you can flash the PCM yourself or do you have to take it to the dealership for that. I am looking at replacing the governor transducer first to see if that helps.

I don't know if you can flash the PCM yourself without having to buy some electronic hardware kit that can interface itself to the PCM. Problaby would cost you more to buy the hardware to flash it than having the dealer flash it for ya. You can problaby check with a reputable Dodge dealer and ask if your 1999 Durango has any TSB's on your PCM. IF so, you can get your PCM flashed without any cost to you. My dealer says that the updated flash on the PCM affects emissions and I think emissions has a 10 year 100k warranty??? not sure. But mine was covered under emissions.
