2008 Avenger... Red SXT with the 2.7 engine...  I pick it up tomorrow
it is 10X more comfortable and 100X nicer than my previous daily driver.

It will repace a 2003 Neon, purschased in Dec 2002 with 145,000 and a bad tranny

I drive 500 miles a week.  (Yes I really do... ) and already have a 500+ HP car for my summer
weekend use.  So I didn't consider a V8 as my work car.

I will take and post some pictures tomorrow.

Sweet let us know.

I will be home for spring break in a week and I will definetly be making some trips to see what these babies feel like to drive.
I wanna get a feel for the R/T FWD. I know the awd will be heavier, but I just wanna see how the engine feels mated with a six speed.

1000 Miles... the weather is getting better... I will wash it up and take some pictures this week.
I told you guys I drive 500 miles / week.

Notes so far...

Nice and quiet ride.
Seats are comfy
So far about 25-26 MPG
Had lots of ice and snow up here last week... ABS very helpful
The pop can cooler above the glovebox works real well... but it is winter lets see how
it works when it's 100 deg's out.

Radio is good... 6 disk DVD/ CD changer... will play DVD audio... I need to burn some and test it..
Also this must be the same head unit they use for the rear screen center.... I bet.. it has a video out
somewhere on it... I would like to pull the unit and see if I am right.

The air intake is crazy restrictive!!! I am in for a cold air kit the day I can get one.   ** I will picture this **

I also am looking for a link to see if they have worked out the 2.7L engine problems since the Intrepid days.

If that is a concern I would have waited before getting the 2.7L.  If it appears the problem was not resolved, I heard that synethic oil fixed the problem.

Anyways, is this version of the 2.7L more refined or does it run somewhat like an I4?

the 2.7 problem were fixed in the lh cars around 2002.  this new version of the 2.7 is designed for a better power curve.

I just got a 2008 Avenger SXT from Dodge City in Willingboro, NJ.  It's the Marathon Blue Pearlcoat.  Really nice color...metallic flakes make it look almost silver in the right sunlight.

They said they only had one...which was a black base model with a 4 cylinder.  I drove it, and it was ok.  I was kinda hoping for a 6 Cyl.

We went back in and found out there was one literally on the truck.  They pulled it off and I bought it.  The only thing missing that I did want was a sunroof...no biggie.  Also found out this one had the 2.7 6 Cylinder WITH FlexFuel.  It can take either 87 octane or E85 Ethenol.  Too bad they don't sell E85 in Jersey yet.

I traded in a 2001 Monte Carlo SS/High Sport Package with 87k on it.  The dealership gave me $6,000 for it. (Bluebook was $6,500).  Good deal.

I'm still trying to get used to having a smaller car (The Monte was over 17' long) and the interior is much smaller as well.  The Avenger doesn't have the power that the Monte did either...so I'm trying to get used to that as well.

Needless to say, I just found out there has been a recall on this car already...something about the doorlocks.  Gonna have to bring it back I suppose.

It isn't too surprising that your disappointed in the power coming from a 3800 powered Monte Carlo.  The 3800 produced around 10hp & 35 ft-lbs of torque more than your 2.7L does and at a lower RPM for the hp.  Also the Monte Carlo weighed less as well.  Also the Avenger is a smaller mid-sized vs. the Monte Carlo is a larger mid-sized.  If power was what you were interested in, you should have gone with the R/T model.  If you would like to boost the power look into a cold-air intake with a K&N cone.  Those really help a lot from what I have observed.

Actually I think you might have misunderstood, Intrepid.  I was happy with the power from the Monte.  I'm just not used to the 2.7 of the Avenger yet.  But with gas prices the way they are...and I needed a family sized car...why not, right?  :)

As for the K&N, yep, I had one in the Monte...and I noticed a difference.  I don't know that K&N makes an air filter for the Avenger just yet.

Actually, the SS in 2001 only had 200hp/240lbs torque......as they werent S/C'd until 2004.....so the only difference between the cars is 45ftlbs of torque....

But agreed you are used to a lighter car with more torque, makes a difference. The Avenger was too small for my tastes as well. My previous car being a Stratus R/T coupe (on par with the Monte in size/power) I wound up getting a Grand Prix myself...

I hope you like your Avenger and you definitely should post pictures up!

I was looking at the Grand Prix and Altima...but ultimately decided that I liked the design of the Avenger best.

Even though I'm having great difficulty trying to get my hockey bag into the trunk!

As soon as I shrink the JPG to fit the 500kb that the site allows, I'll post a pic.
