View Full Version : 2008 Avenger
2008 Avenger... Red SXT with the 2.7 engine... I pick it up tomorrow
it is 10X more comfortable and 100X nicer than my previous daily driver.
It will repace a 2003 Neon, purschased in Dec 2002 with 145,000 and a bad tranny
I drive 500 miles a week. (Yes I really do... ) and already have a 500+ HP car for my summer
weekend use. So I didn't consider a V8 as my work car.
I will take and post some pictures tomorrow.
n1vek 02-22-2007, 03:07 AM Sweet let us know.
I will be home for spring break in a week and I will definetly be making some trips to see what these babies feel like to drive.
I wanna get a feel for the R/T FWD. I know the awd will be heavier, but I just wanna see how the engine feels mated with a six speed.
Midnight 02-22-2007, 02:47 PM SWEET! Definitely want to see pictures. I have a Neon and will be replacing with an RT Avenger soon.
40 Miles... I hate to get it dirty.. it drives nice.. and is very quiet... I didn't really need the R/T for my daily driver.. but it is a very sweet car..... The SXT drove just fine... Ill get a picture of it soon... and try to post it up.
silvercoupe97 02-22-2007, 09:11 PM Quit teasing us Iggy! It's the next day already, so post them up, lol.
You little teaser!:D
Oh and welcome to DF:)
1000 Miles... the weather is getting better... I will wash it up and take some pictures this week.
I told you guys I drive 500 miles / week.
Notes so far...
Nice and quiet ride.
Seats are comfy
So far about 25-26 MPG
Had lots of ice and snow up here last week... ABS very helpful
The pop can cooler above the glovebox works real well... but it is winter lets see how
it works when it's 100 deg's out.
Radio is good... 6 disk DVD/ CD changer... will play DVD audio... I need to burn some and test it..
Also this must be the same head unit they use for the rear screen center.... I bet.. it has a video out
somewhere on it... I would like to pull the unit and see if I am right.
The air intake is crazy restrictive!!! I am in for a cold air kit the day I can get one. ** I will picture this **
I also am looking for a link to see if they have worked out the 2.7L engine problems since the Intrepid days.
97 3.5 Intrepid 03-05-2007, 08:36 PM If that is a concern I would have waited before getting the 2.7L. If it appears the problem was not resolved, I heard that synethic oil fixed the problem.
Anyways, is this version of the2.7L more refined or does it run somewhat like an I4?

:D
nickoman01 03-12-2007, 01:50 AM the 2.7 problem were fixed in the lh cars around 2002. this new version of the 2.7 is designed for a better power curve.
hckygoalie31 03-12-2007, 03:36 PM I just got a 2008 Avenger SXT from Dodge City in Willingboro, NJ. It's the Marathon Blue Pearlcoat. Really nice color...metallic flakes make it look almost silver in the right sunlight.
They said they only had one...which was a black base model with a 4 cylinder. I drove it, and it was ok. I was kinda hoping for a 6 Cyl.
We went back in and found out there was one literally on the truck. They pulled it off and I bought it. The only thing missing that I did want was a sunroof...no biggie. Also found out this one had the 2.7 6 Cylinder WITH FlexFuel. It can take either 87 octane or E85 Ethenol. Too bad they don't sell E85 in Jersey yet.
I traded in a 2001 Monte Carlo SS/High Sport Package with 87k on it. The dealership gave me $6,000 for it. (Bluebook was $6,500). Good deal.
I'm still trying to get used to having a smaller car (The Monte was over 17' long) and the interior is much smaller as well. The Avenger doesn't have the power that the Monte did either...so I'm trying to get used to that as well.
Needless to say, I just found out there has been a recall on this car already...something about the doorlocks. Gonna have to bring it back I suppose.
97 3.5 Intrepid 03-13-2007, 12:29 AM It isn't too surprising that your disappointed in the power coming from a 3800 powered Monte Carlo. The 3800 producedaround 10hp &35 ft-lbs of torque more than your 2.7L does and at a lower RPM for the hp. Also the Monte Carlo weighed less as well. Also the Avenger is a smaller mid-sized vs. theMonte Carlo is a larger mid-sized. If power was what you were interested in, you should have gone with the R/T model. If you would like to boost the power look into a cold-air intake with a K&N cone. Those really help a lot from what Ihave observed.
hckygoalie31 03-13-2007, 12:55 PM Actually I think you might have misunderstood, Intrepid. I was happy with the power from the Monte. I'm just not used to the 2.7 of the Avenger yet. But with gas prices the way they are...and I needed a family sized car...why not, right? :)
As for the K&N, yep, I had one in the Monte...and I noticed a difference. I don't know that K&N makes an air filter for the Avenger just yet.

Actually, the SS in 2001 only had 200hp/240lbs torque......as they werent S/C'd until 2004.....so the only difference between the cars is 45ftlbs of torque....
But agreed you are used to a lighter car with more torque, makes a difference. The Avenger was too small for my tastes as well. My previous car being a Stratus R/T coupe (on par with the Monte in size/power) I wound up getting a Grand Prix myself...
I hope you like your Avenger and you definitely should post pictures up!
hckygoalie31 03-13-2007, 02:18 PM I was looking at the Grand Prix and Altima...but ultimately decided that I liked the design of the Avenger best.
Even though I'm having great difficulty trying to get my hockey bag into the trunk!
As soon as I shrink the JPG to fit the 500kb that the site allows, I'll post a pic.
hckygoalie31 03-13-2007, 02:26 PM looks like I figured it out. Click on the attachment for a bigger pic:

The SE is a 2.4 Liter 4 Cylinder
The SXT is a 2.7 Liter 6 Cylinder (mine came with the E85 Flexfuel motor)
The RT is a 3.5 Liter 6 Cylinder
Richduck 04-02-2007, 07:09 PM Ok this is for any SE owners out there without EVIC. I've gone through the owners manual a number of times and I can't turn off my horn whenever I lock the vehicle. It's really annoying. I don't mind the lights, but the horn is loud as hell. This is what I do by the owners manual. I hold down the lock button for four seconds then press the panic button and release both buttons together. I've done this about 8 times and still nothing. Any help out there would be appreciated.
Revenger08 04-04-2007, 02:12 PM The SXT motor posting is wrong....
The SXT comes w/ two motor options,
2.4L World Engine (I4)
2.7L V6 w/ Flex fuel capability
I hope this corrects any confusion

Scott67 04-09-2007, 02:32 AM Hi, I have a SXT but dont have EVIC and I can't shut off my horn either! Whats up with this!
Richduck 04-11-2007, 10:11 PM There's instructions for turning off the horn without EVIC in the owners manual, but that doesn't seem to work. It's getting pretty annoying. I don't mind the lights flashing, but the horn is just too much.
8000 Mile update....
Mileage = ~ 30 mpg open Highway
24 mpg City traffic
I drive 120 miles round trip a day... in bad Chicago traffic.
The three day trip 360 miles takes 15 gallons of gas. The same mileage
as my 2003 neon 2.0
I did get caught with the bad door about 3000 miles...
Opened the door at the ATM and it woudn't close had to drive while
holding the door closed from the inside... much easier over 70
The parts and the recall were not out yet according to the dealer
... so they just fixed it to get the the door to close... It was
funny that the dealer did not know about the pending recall on the doors...
I knew it just from google....
Had the recal service at it's 6000 mile oil change... (Get the oil change
package from the dealer... I have changes till 2014 for about 3 bucks
an oil change)
Well now for the bad news... It's leaking engine collant under the passenger side nose.
Left a good sized puddle over night. but the level is normal on the
overflow tank... jacked it up and it was slowly driping. I needed to remove
the plastic cover under the splitter to see exactly where it was comming
from..but screw it... Ill take it in to the dealer since it is a new car..
I will report the cause / cure back when if the Dodge boys figure it out.
I know... pictures... pictures....
Still no scratches or chips @ 8000 miles...
The first one is the worst.

20Avenger08 06-06-2007, 04:38 PM I just picked up my silver SXT 2.4 world engine yesterday and I love it. I got the sunroof as well. Traded in my 2001 Ram with a bad tranny. I plan on getting limo tint on the back windows and on the eyebrow and get 25% on the front windows and sunroof. First time owning a car rather then a truck but I really like it. Wnat to put in HID headlights just not sure of the conversion yet. Here are a couple pics I took while at work.
