Default 00 Durango 5.2 Won't start

sunday we were at a store and when we went to leave the durango would not start. It did not even make a noise when i turned the key. after I would try to start it and let go of the key I heard a click click coming from behind the passenger side air bag. I poped the hood and checked all the fuses and tried it again but nothing. then 10 min. later it cranked but went dead again then it finaly cranked and ran. We have drove it to work yesterday and to today with no problems yet. what cauesed that and how can i fix it.

Sounds like a bad connection. I had it happen to me before and pulled the battery cable and poured a pepsi on it for a quick fix. I would suggest looking for a loose ground and check the battery cable for corrosion. Do a search and it will tell you how to "properly" clean the terminal and cable.

I agree, sounds like a loose battery terminal. Also, check power levels on your battery.

I agree, I had the same thing on my Cherokee, there was a loose connection so loose that when I pulled the terminal the post came out with it. I am not sure what woke me up in a cold sweat that night but I am glad I did. Midnight, I started trying to figure out what is going on with it. Sure enough, loose connection and the post came up with the terminal, so there I was 0100 in the AutoZone Parking lot swapping out batteries, while Running of course, back to home, get about a 20 minute nap then shower and off for a 0300 show at work.

Also look for a wire leading up to your starter/starter solenoid that is bare/worn from rubbing on metal... happened on a Pickup I used to have... Power could just be going right to ground and not even making it to you starter and solenoid. Good luck... Jay

so it happend again today. the light under the hood was weak and when i would try to start it the car made no noise at all. I checked the bat. cables and they seemed tight but when i wiggled the neg the light under the hood got brighter and it started. Is the cable bad, could it be loose at the battery even though it seems tight, or could it be loose some where else. If it could be loose some where else where should I check.

You don't have to replace the entire cable, just the terminal. The terminal is what connects the cable to the battery. Simply go to a local parts store and ask for a negative bettery terminal. They cost all of $5.00. Snip the cable as close to the end as possible to give you as much excess cable as possible. Attach the new terminal to the cable, apply anti-corrosion lube (Should come with the terminal, but if it doesn't, but it. It costs, at most, $2.00). After it is hooked up and lubed up, attach it to the negative battery post, tighten, and you will be on your way.

Or just squeeze the terminal with some vice grips for a quick fix but it is a good idea to change it soon.
