I have recently developed a starter problem on my intrepid (95). I have a new battray and I replaced the Starter switch. when turning ignition to start the cranking is intemiitent. some times it cranks and sometimes it does not. By turning key on and off this fixes the problem.  when the engine cranks there seems to be plenty of power. so I it is diffficult to point to the starter itself.

Anyone out there has any idea what could be the problem. Also how easy is it to remove the starter.

thanks for any inputs

Don't know if you've solved your problem yet, but I had a similar experience with my 94 Intrepid. Intermittent starting (just had to turn the key just right). Turned out it was the starter, after I changed it out it has been starting just fine. The hardest part in changing the starter was getting the cables on, very good access to get to the part (a rare feat with modern cars)

Not to bad to change. It is a little bit easier if you go from the bottom. The top bolt might give you a little trouble but you can always go through the top for it. One thing that I found easy was to put the wires on it first and then install it. Good luck!

Ignition switch, you need some special inverted torx sockets to do the job.

Hey,
My girlfriend had taken her '95 Intrepid to the dealer for a similar issue and they ended up replacing 2 contacts inside of the starter for less than $5. The head of the service department said it happens all the time, and Chrysler calls for replacing the entire starter. Sounds to me like they wanted to charge her once for this and then charge again when the starter gave out for good.

I just had a similar problem with my 94 Concorde 3.3L. I had already replaced the ignition switch about 4 months ago and the starter would click like the battery was dead. I replaced the starter and I haven't had a problem since.

Happening to me right now.
We got a 94 eagle vision esi w/ the 3.3 also.We had the tranny replaced cause the convertor bolts came loose and locked up the tranny and blew the head of the starter completly apart and the sensor as well. When the guy put in a real good tranny from a 95 concorde he put in a used starter. Now when we try to start it it keeps clicking. After a few cus words and about a minute of turning the key on and off it`ll start up.But since then we told the guy that fixed it for us that we bought a new starter to replace the POS used 1 he put in.The guy shouldve at least put a new starter in while the car was apart. But after reading this i guess we was right that the starter was bad.Car just turned 152k miles on it and still runs and looks great for a car we have had since day 1.
thanks
pat
