Default 95 transmission

Have 5.2 engine for my streetrod, using 94 Dak donor wiring, rear etc..Can I use a trans from any 5.2 and what years will work? What will have to be changed?

Does it have to be out of a Dak?

so let me get this straight. you took a 5.2 with wiring outta a 94 dak and putting it in a street rod?

I think you will need a tranny outta the same truck because it will be computer controlled. im guessing it will need to be 92-96 to work. but im not 100% sure on that.

There is some confusion over when they switched to the electronically controlled transmissions. I thought they switched in 1992 (as you think) but someone said 1996 was the first year. After looking on makeitmopar.com, it does appear that 1996 was the first year for the electronically controlled transmissions (4XRE versus 4XRH, where E=electronic and H=hydraulic).

Also, according to makeitmopar.com, the automatic transmission you would have behind the 19945.2L would be similar only to 1994 and 1995 (don't ask me what the differances from previous years would be [since it would have the same model transmission], couldn't tell you).
The same year range also would apply with a manual transmission, even though 1996 ran the same manual transmissions. (1993 and below used a differant transmission)

Yea, they are.
I posted the information I gathered on transmissions from year to year on my site. See the list here.

You can put what ever small block trans you want behind your 5.2 up to 96. If you have a donor for a 96 ECM and harness you could use that too .The only differents for 91- 95 is upgrades to the internals. But the overdrive trans has an extra large rear section and will not fit in just any trans tunnel. If you want you could even use a 727 or 904 in your rod. To get my truck on the road while I was looking for part I through the original 2.2 5 speed and a 3.9 bellhousing in it.
My 88 Dak now has a 94 5.2 ,95 auto overdrive,91 diff and custom fuel injection. What body are you building and how much HP are you planning on
