We just changed the water pump on my 98 durango...........we started several times to check for leaks..........started a little rough but started. Now it wont stay running though. Starts and stalls..........no sputtering, rough idle,,,,,,,,,,just stalls. I can make it run by holding down the gas but thats it as soon as let off........stalls. any ideas?

I had the same problem without the waterpump. Everytime I started it it would stall, if I held my foot on the pedal it would run.

Turns out I needed a new battery, if the battery gets to low the durango forgets the throtle postion and that why it wouldn't stay running. Hope this helps.

had the same problem that the only way to keep it running was to hold the gas down. what i found was thatthe PCV valve needs to be replaced. couple of bucks. you can check by just disconnecting it and pulling it out and the engine will run fine. change it at each oil change. forget the battery for now.

I agree that the PCV valve could be the problem..... Had to clean mine one night when it kept dying. No doubt it WAS the problem.....

Does that happen when the engine is warm or cold? If its cold it might be the IAC. If it goes bad it wont idle when cold
