hi there everyone quick question i was watching horse power gargage today any they installed a turbo on a vette ....they gents on the show called this the best way to put a blower on the car because it uses the cars exaust gases for power but my question then becomes .whats the difference between turbo and a supercharger and is one better then the other.also i checked out sts turbo they make a turbo for the ram hemi .i emailed them about one for the lx cars no reply yet .please try to keep replys as plain english as possible.
superchargers are more reliable, but turbos are more streetable. most cars you see at the track that are strictly race cars, that have to be trailered in and out, are supercharged unless they are naturally aspirated. most of the forced induction cars that you see driving to and from the track will be turboed. if it were me id go with a supercharger just because of the reliability issues ive been hearing about turbos. if you go with a turbo, id take your headers off and put your stock exhuast manifolds back on, as the turbos use exhaust gases to force air into the intake manifold, and with headers, there is too much airflow. a turbo will work with headers but youll get far better results with plain manifolds, from what i understand. if you have any questions, just ask and ill ask my automotive instructor. he has 20 plus years experience building and racing performance cars, so he should know the answer.

ok choices choices choices .......so opinions for everyday driving and flooring it either at the track or for some jack of ass who thinks he is faster ? money wise there really isnt a difference there all about the same ...instalation i think there about the same level of difficulty........so it comes down to preference and reliability .which setup would be more reliable and provide the best power ..id like to keep whats on the car now headers etc ..didi i just box myself into a supercharge r? im not gonna mind either set up just want to get the best my money can buy .
you didnt box yourself into a supercharger with the headers, a turbo would just work better without them. for daily driving, and some track use, id go with a turbo, they are still pretty reliable, just not as reliable as a supercharger. when a turbocharger fails, you have to rebuild it or replace it or it wont run right, and both of those can be really expensive to do. if the car isnt tuned perfectly, then this could/will happen. also if the main bearing goes out (its not called the main bearing i dont think but the specific name is escaping me), those are usually available only to rebuilders, its not a part you can get on the net and order to your door. ill talk to my instructor tomorrow about the different problems associated with each one. that will be of more help than my fairly limited knowledge of them.

The turbo setups being developed for the LXs will work with headers so you’re not boxed in.
Johndcjr1989 is right a supercharger is more reliable in that it isn’t subjected to the heat that a turbo is. On the flip side I think the supercharger places more stress on engine internals.
thanks to both of you for your input .that is an interseting point you made mango about stressing the internals ? i wonder how neccesary redoing my engine would be with a turbo system ? but i do like the idea that the system is more reliable so if i redo the engine the stress wont be to bad .speaking of which ive recieved just about all of the parts minus a fly wheel and a crankshaft.i would have had the crankshaft but the plant in mexico where they are made is working to slow .figures what would you expect from contracting work to mexicans.
Just my opinion, once they get going, either can put equal stress on the internals it a matter of how the initial power is applied.
Not directed at anyone: Don't go into boosting blind, either way you boost (NO2/Supercharger/Turbo/Squirrels in a cage ) the added performance will take it's toll sooner or later so be ready to pay if you want to play.
