Default wont idle cold??

i have a 89 daytona that doesnt idle when its below freezing out. its a non turbo 2.5 liter with throttle body injection.the engine will just shut off andwhen i start it back up it fires right up and have to hold the throttle.what i have to do is play with the throttle a bit and when the it gets warm then it starts to idle by itself. it doesnt seem like its running full rich like the engine coolant sensor is messsed up. it doesnt miss or run rough when i have it throttle up. no check engine light or anything in that nature. my guess would probably start with maybe tps sensor or iac motor?
Any advice appreciated.

Throttle body injection sucks, it's often times worse than carburation and they usually have the same negative problems carburators do, but are not as easy or cheap to fix. You might be able to fix it simply by cleaning it with Gumout carb and choke cleaner, try that first since it's the cheapest and easiest.

Might I also suggest pulling the codes (if there are any). If cleaning the throttle body doesn't help, that may give some clues as to what may be going on.

I had this happen. In my case my iac plunger was plugged up from to much blow by over the years. Didn't make sense why it idled warm though. Although, I,ve heard of this symptom caused by other problems. I think your on the right track though. Please let us know. Good luck.

Mine did the same thing alot. I went and picked up some really good injector cleaner and started running premium gas and it doesn't do it anymore. might give it a shot.

The problem could berelated to the PCV valve or the EGR valve system also Change the PCV valve first there cheap, then try removing and cleaning the EGR valve and system. Good Luck.[sm=confused06.gif]
