Have you ever removed an engine before?

Pull the drive axles, remove all wiring harnesses and tie them out of your way, depressurize the fuel line and remove from engine, drain coolant and unhook radiator hoses and pull radiator, remove battery and tray, remove vacuum lines. What you do with the refrigerant is up to you, there is quite a large penalty if you get caught releasing it into the atmosphere
Support engine with hoist/cherry picker, remove motor mounts. Raise engine until you can easily remove power steering line. Double check that there are no more harness, wires, hoses still connected. Remove engine and tranny together.
Some of the bolts aren't exactly easy to get too, don't forget things like tranny lines (for ATX) speedo cables, o2 sensors.
That is the basics, if you have never removed an engine before, I strongly recommend you do it with someone that has done the job before.

I don't think Chiltons made a manual for these cars...you can order an official service manual from 3sx.

The engine does come out the top, with some manuvering you shouldn't have any problem taking it out with the tranny hooked up. An extra set of hands is helpful in guiding it out.
