My girlfriend bought a 96 'kota sport 4X4 with the 3.9 V6 back in July 06. It ran really noisy, idled rough, had sluggish acceleration and had a sticky lifter that sounded like an old typewriter. I drained the old oil out which resembled mud in its thickness and colour and replaced it with dino juice. Replaced that again with Mobil 1 synthetic in Sep 06 and about two weeks later the oil was black and the sticky lifter tapping sound was gone. Changed that oil again in Dec 06 with Mobil1 synthetic and it is just turning black now but it idles quietly and smoothly now, no sticky lifter, and runs like a champ but the BIG difference is under the valve cover....back in july there were deposits you could chip off with your fingernail.....now they are all gone!!! I use synthetic in all my vehicles but never really saw the cleaning power before....A happy ending for a sad case of neglect.

I only use synthetics too. my 88 used to have a lifter noise too, but after I started putting in the used sythetic outta the 99 dak it went away.  now I just have a timing chain noise.

I've been meaning to try synthetic oil, but now that i hear a testimony like this there's no reason for me not to try it.
