Default '07 headroom, headliner or seat mod

I'm looking at purchasing an '07 Dakota Quad Cab. I am 6'6" and with the pwr seat tilted and reclined to where Iwant it, my head is right at the drop in the headliner. Musta been a short guy designing it!

Anyway, wondering if anyone has had the headliner down, how much clearance is there between the headliner and the roof reinforcement? Wondering if the headliner could be modified or replaced to give more headroom.

The other option I'm looking at is cutting a little out of the seat base 'legs'and rewelding, but don't like this idea for safety sake.

might want to think about installing a sun roof as a factory option. this will give you the neccesary head room you are looking for.

yeah...get a ram...plus, you can get a HEMI in that. Well...i'm sure if you were willing to spend the extra money, you can drop a hemi in a dakota too, but a ram is b***er. One of my friends recently bought a 1500 TRX4, and it's got a ton of headroom in it, gets about the same mileage as my dakota with the hemi.

Don't cut & weld the seat... that's a really BAD idea for many reasons (strength, airbags, etc).

I've pondered the same thing, and pushing up on the head liner it seems to have a lot of space between the liner and the roof arch. It seems really dumb they cut into headroom just to put a smooth curve on the roof lining.

BTW, how would a sunroof help things? Is that headliner significantly different?

A sunroof would make it worse

Well I don't remember if the Dakotas come with a moonroof (slides into the roof) or a sunroof (slides above the roof) as a factory option.....but with a moonroof you get a even lower headliner.....so that wouldn't work out.

And I think they're saying get a sunroof so you can either poke your head out and drive or so you have that extra clearance with the sunroof shade open.....just an idea

Perhaps the sunroof idea was a joke, haha, but seriously, the factory sunroof would be worse. The headliner would be lower overall. I just don't understand how anyone could do such a poor design. Put the drop right where a tall person would need the headroom???? The rest of the headliner is fine, just not at thepointof rear most seat travel.

The Durango doesn't have the severedrop, nordo other Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep products that I've tried. I can fit in a little Liberty, Caliber, new Sebring etc as long as they are not equipped with a factory sunroof. I currently drive a '98 Dakota club cab, and it is fine.

Buying a Ram would be nice, but I spend some time in the city and parking a Dakota is already a pain at times. A Ram would be near impossible in some places. I really don't need a full size truck, but would miss giving it up entirely.
