Well thats kind of pathetic...all the other GXP models have a descent amount of power. The 2500lb Solstice has 260HP/260TQ, the Grand Prix GXP has 303HP...then theres the lowly G6.

Yeah, according to GM's site....it will have a 3.6L V6, 6 spd auto - 252 hp & 251 ftlbs of torque. That's pretty weak. My 04 Grand Prix GTP has more then that....granted, its a sedan.....but jeez....that's rather pathetic...

That doesn't make any sense. The G6 GTP was supposed to have that powertrain for this year. Did they just drop the GTP badge all of a sudden? Their starting to treat the new GXP badge like Dodge treats the R/T badge. A trim level. If they are going to offer a GXP model on the G6, they ought to offer a traditional domestic style powertrain since that is Pontiac's market.
Since the Grand Prix is goingto be discontinued after this year (unfortuneatly), they ought to get the GXP model an updated version of the supercharged 3800. Some ram airs and perhaps a smaller pulley on the supercharger along with the 6-speed auto (if it can handle the torque). That would be one fun car if they did that. I wonder if the GXP might be a little more powerful since it has air scoops in the hood and they haven't mentioned the added amount amount of power.

The GTP line is being discontinued and replaced with the GXP line.......the most recent version of the 3800 V6 is the Series III, which was used in my 04 GTP Comp G sedan......260hp, 280ftlbs of torque
This is a 3.6L V6, which explains the smaller power levels. I agree, the 3.8L V6 would be more then capable of putting down 300hp easily......
Switching to a smaller pulley on the 3.8L would be more then sufficient for power gains....but I doubt a 6spd auto would work too well for the torque...
