Default Intake question

I was at my mechanics showing him the new truck and we popped the hood and i looked and just happen to notice that the air filter said K&N, did the rams come w/ those stock in 96 or is that an aftermarket? It was a rectangular box w/ what looked like 3 clamps holding it shut, if it is aftermarket, how do i find out what kind of filter it is, as because i know absolutely nothing on this topic. yet I know its hard to see in this pic, but its windy and cold and i'm not running out to take a new picture tonight, sorry

thats the stock air filter box/intake, but with a k&n filter element in it. this was not stock in '96, it is an upgraded item. although not as effective as the k&n intake; the filter still does a great deal of good.
