Hey all, I just bought myself an '06 Charger R/T, Midnite blue. I LOVE IT. Anyways, I was talking to a friend about a flowmaster exhaust. He told me that he bought one and something about the exhaust was causing the MDS to misfire? He said as he would drive down the road, it was sputter a lil bit as it would cut from 8 to 4 cylinders and back, on freeway driving. Does that sound fimilar to anyone? I want to get the flowmasters just for the deep throaty sound! Any help from anyone that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of a Catback giving/causing MDS to missfire. It may drone but that's it as far as MDS is concerned.

MangoInTX, You seem to know your sh*t. I see that you have replied to many posts in here. Well, to be honest I don't know shit about vehicles. I traded in my Civic for this vehicle and am very satisfied; however, the wife now wants to drive it when she never wanted to drive the Civic. I can't blame her tho. Anyways, when you say "Drone" what exactly is that and is it a huge problem? I tried to look up drone but couldn't find anything on it. Thanks for you help Mango.

I try to help and also learn when I can, glad to share. The correct meaning in the dictionary is: to make a dull, continued, low, monotonous sound; hum; buzz. To me it's a tone, a low dull buzzing noise, that the exhaust makes which will drill through the brain and drive one crazy. Some people don't mind it others do, it's a personal perference.

Mango, Again thanks for you help. I know understand what it was you were referring too. I have a set of Magnaflow's on my Suburban. I love the way they sound, adding that little bit of toughness to it. There is a "drone" to that, but for me it's really not that noticable and I'm wondering if it's because it's on a Suburban and quite a ways back from the drivers seat. Wondering if that would be different on the Charger since it's considerably smaller. Guess I'm going to have to get one and find out. Again thanks, Mike

I got the answer for you on this one cuz my car does the same thing. with my ride having flowmaster 40s, when you accelerate, the typical rumbling sound is heard. When I hit a cruising speed like lets say 80mph and keep it there, MDS kicks in shutting off 4 cyls. and the drone is heard. The second I step on it, the drone stops and I hear the sound of all 8 cyls. So, it's not a misfire, it's just the sound of 4 cyls pumping out exhaust instead of 8. however, when I have the car in manual mode, MDS does not activate, and I don't hear the drone at all. I hope this helps you out in picking out an exhaust, but just remember that whatever you settle on, don't half-ass it. If you want flowmaster, get the entire kit, and don't have a shop fab-u-up some pipes. Fabbed flows (from personal experience) generate a louder drone. If you want to avoid as much drone as possible, I suggest you look around other discussions and see what others have said about their setups.

Thanks...I'm torn between the Magnaflow's and the Flowmaster's. When I do get whatever it is I'm gonna get, I will throw down for the entire thing and not a halfass job. I just really wish I could hear what it sounds like inside the vehicle at highway speeds. I don't care about around town, but I go from Washington to California quite a bit and don't want a splitting headache half way there from the exhaust. Mike

I have Flowmaster Super 40s on my 07 RT / RT. I wanted the Flowmaster tone with a little less volume. I had my local exhaust shop install the Super 40s and left the rest of the catback system stock including the resos. Great sound at start up and light acceleration, Awesome at WOT and zero drone. Cheap Mod also at $260 installed.

You know it might just be me, but after having my exhaust for so long, it's starting to grow on me, and doesn't sound too bad now.

Mango, The mufflers are Flowmaster Super 40 Series which are included in the kit by Flowmaster Force II #17405, which fits all of the current DC LX platforms. Their list is $844.60, but Summit Racing has the kit for $499.95 which is the cheapest I found it online last year. I really like the sound, so does my wife and we are 59 y.o. No droning or MDS sound effects. Have only heard the sound while driving, not from outside the car while it is in motion driven by someone else. I highly recommend the system, as I said before In only wish such a system was available for my "04 Marauder. Best, Walela

Thanks for the update! I'd love to hear them (both inside and out) on a R/T.

This "drone" has been debated on here since about day one. I have the Magnaflow complete system, and wish I had not gotten it now. At first, I thought I could live with it. To me, it's like someone drumbing their fingers on a table. Not only is there the nose from the drumbing, but there is a slight harmonic vibration as well. I think, if the center "suitcase" is left in tact, and the system upgraded from there back, you would be fine. The alternative, from what I've read here, is either a Borla or Corsa system. No droning as far as I know from either of those systems. Just my two cents worth. dave
