I'm getting a low brake squeak once my brakes are warmed up and I first apply them. Once the pads are firmly on the roter there is no squeak. I have 5100 miles on my Top Banana and this is the second time I have brought it to the dealer for this problem. They can't seem to hear or find the squeak and are telling me that my brakes are at 95-98% and it is due to the metallic pads that are used on this car. They said that the only way to fix this is to get ceramic pads which they say are expensive. Has anyone else had this problem and am I getting good info from my dealer. Thanks in advance.

The dealer seems fixated on the pads, but there are several other things to look at. The pad isn’t gripping the surface of the rotor correctly. Several things can cause this: surface contaminates, water, dust FROM the pad itself, rotor hard spots, warped rotor, rotor's faces not truly parallel to each other, the centerline of the rotor not being true to the centerline of the caliper, grease, pad composition.. you get the picture.

Press them to look at other possible symptoms.  After 4 or 5 trips to them on the same issue pull out your lemon card. Ask that they help with replacing the pads with the proper type if that is indeed the issue.

Your going to have to become a weekly squeak to them.

When I picked up the car last night they gave me a printout highlighting normal brake noise. They are claiming that this is normal. I will just have to take it back in a few weeks if it continues. Thanks for your reply.

I took them apart and cleaned everything put on some anti sqeel silicone ect.. still the same. foe the past 8000mi i can tell the rotors have been warping more and more. I think think the factory rotors are probably crap.

Your right atnyman, DCX has had issues with rotors. If you don't hook up with a good dealership it can be very difficult to get them fixed under warranty.

Will another dealership (possibly Chrysler and not a Dodge dealership) honor the warranty and work on your car? I have a Chrysler dealership in the area that is supposed to be pretty reputable.

They should the Charger is a LX platform vehicle which is made by Dodge & Chrysler, both are under DaimlerChrysler (DCX).

Ok, finally got sick of sqeek in front brakes. i cut rotors & put new pads (thermoquit $90). 1 Rotor rotor warped real bad. The sqeeking is coming from rotors. sqeek is gone. Next brake job new sloted rotors.

The Daytona Chargers have a serious break issue.  The extra HP and torque cuaght Dodge off guard and we are all having issues with the breaks.  I had to turn the rear rotors and the guy at O'Reilly was shocked they were in such bad condition.  I think I am going to purchase after market rotors.  I have given Dodge a lot of chances and they are pretening that I am crazy.  I'm not deaf and I hear the break noice.

Any suggestins on aftermarket rotors???

Scott

I got tired of my brakes fading on me.  I do beat my car but rarely beat the brakes.  I drive fast but most of my hard braking is 40-0.  When I drive fast one the freeway I usely slow down with the shifter and then use my brakes.  Ever since I bought this car the brakes sucked at high speeds 90+.  So I got rid of my speed limiter and figured I should upgrade my brakes.  I got EBC slottoed rotors and EBC red stuff pads.  Worth every penny, I can beat and beat the brakes and they do get hot but no brake fade.  This has been the best upgrade I have made for my car becuase I can actualy drive faster because I can stop better and rely on them every time I step on them.   Be prepared for brake dust and noise...  They actualy make a slight grinding noise just driving around...  I am not sure if the stock rotors and garbage or if its the pads.  But replaced them and you will not regret it!!

The most disappointed I have been with teh Daytona is with their breaking system.  For the first 8000 miles I had the car in the dealership constantly.  They allegedly had a Daytona break brake recall.  The changed the pads, calipers and resurfaced the rotors.  All I know is that they stopped the squelling for 20K miles and the rear brakes went out with 55 % of the front pads remaining.  Very strange.  Last week I had to have the rotors turned again on front and back and now no noise and they brake very well with no shake at all.  I tested it at 110 mph today.

SRTEATR - Glad you like your new brakes but - any brake noise is the most annoying thing to me.  I would rather my car rattle than to put up with constant break noise or even applied peddle noise.

having the same problem with the squeaky breaks and vibration over 80mph with my 07 R/T but i only have 750 miles on it! seems to be coming from the back right, have the origional chrome clad wheels with the goodyear 18"s on it but waiting for american racing wheels to come in hopefully next week! i DO plan on getting it aligned after the new wheels but the brake issue is driving me nuts! i went on to the dodge website looking for recalls but found nothing - any suggestions anyone ?

My issues started early on . I think you must take it in while the 12,000 mile warranty is intact.  For some reason, these cars have serious rotor issues.  They warp very easily.  I can only assume you need to get your rotors resurfaced.  It wears your rear pads down quickly too.
