Hello. I have had this 95 Dakota 4x4 for about 6 months. It ran fine for 2 or 3 months. Than I was turning into a parking lot and it died. It was like some one turned the key off. After a few minutes of cranking it fired up. But acted like the fuel pump was bad it bucked cut out and smelled rich and than died about ½ mile down the road. If it sets a few minutes it would start and go around 4 feet than die again. It idols fine revs up and sounds great. You can even break torque it. Until you try to drive it than it dies. I replaced the fuel pump. I was convinced that was what it was. That did not help. I flashed the codes and got a no fuel sync code so I replaced the cam position sensor. That did not help. I checked the solder connection. They looked fine. I checked the fuel pressure it looked good and did not drop. I rented a reader from a part store it was no better than flashing the codes. It was saying no fuel sync. I took it to a shop to get a scanner hooked up. It came back with a code 54 no cam signal at pcm. The pcm makes a high pitch noise. So we are thinking its going bad. Unless anyone can share a different diagnoses. So if I have to replace the pcm any way. My question is this. I want one I can interface with my laptop. Do they make an upgraded one for a 95.

This sounds like the same problem i am having with my truck. I am going to change my O2 Sensor and try again, Please let me know how what you do and what the results are. Does you Check engine light come on and stay on??
No check engine light on. I do have the ABS and Break light on but i think that is another problem all together. Iam going to hopefuly get back to working on it after the holidays. Let me know how the O2 works out.t

RE: Truck will move 4 feet then dies
You might want to check the circuit between the PCM and the cam position sensor.

I am having the same issue, I also have a 95 Dakota 4-wheel drive w/ 5.2
About 3 weeks ago I noticed my tach jumping around but the engine wasn't
reving up, then 2 days later driving home it just cut out, I lost spark, fuel pump
and relays on the driver fender well. I had one guy tall me to replace cap and rotor
done it.. nothing. took it to the garage and had a splice in the wire harness redone..
go it to start. 3 days later dead horse, took it back to garage, out it on scope and
nothing shows up no codes anywhere told it was the PCM, bought a rebuilt unit
($260.00) seeing how there is no after market that I can find and the factory want
$550.00. Started right up... ran for 3 days and is now back at the garage dead
again. If you find something please post it as I will do the same
A hall effect switch is often the problem, search this board and you will find many refrences. When one goes bad the truck will shut down like you turned off the ignition and not set a code on the computer. these go bad all the time.
Definition: A phenomenon in which voltage is generated by the action of a magnetic field acting on a thin conducting material, commonly used to control the primary circuit of an electronic ignition system. Named for the American scientist, Edwin Hall (1855-1938). The principle is used in Hall effect crankshaft position sensors and ignition pickups to produce a very clean on-off signal.
vacuum leak,I had a similar problem with my 87 it turned out that a small vacuum line was split and when it opened up for some reason it would shut my truck down so look 4 a leak
