Default Evolution of the 231D?

My '95 era 231d differs from my '89 in that the vacumn switch/plumbing is different. The '89 has a screw in switch that has 4 hoses, one to the vacumn ball, two to the front axle "pie tin" shift motor, and one (input from manifold?) other.

The '95 seems to have dispensed with the vacumn switch altogether in favor of two electrical connectors and one vacumn or vent hose out the top of the case.

What's the deal?

I'm trying to trouble shoot my 4wd on the '95 and the differences in the two cases has me a little confused.
