I've owned my SE Caliber since end of September. Love the CVT(climbs mountains nicely with 2liter engine) & mileage is 35MPG on the hiway with careful driving. However, the Caliber bucked like crazy leaving stoplights after returning to sealevel from the mountains one day. Dealer said the computer interpreted the return to sealevel as having the wrong oxygen content & leaned out the air-fuel ratio too much. Dealer made a software correction & my Caliber is smoother than silk again with no problem re-occurence.

Following up from my last post. I've had my SE Caliber for 13 months & 18000 miles. Except for the electronic glitch mentioned previously, my SE is 100%...NOT EVEN ANY SQUEAKS, CREAKS OR RATTLES....NOTHING BUT GOOD PERFORMANCE. I love my SE Caliber...I LOVE IT.

Considering the number of rental companies who use Calibers (in Canada) there must be a reason. Many companies in my area have switched from Neons to Calibers for their small cars fleets.

Another reason for the switch to Caliber is that the last Neons were built in 2005,Caliber replaced the Neon.

Calibers are common for rental car fleets here in the USA as well. Rental car companies are not going to keep vehicles in their fleet that are unreliable as it costs them money. Ever time a rental vehicle is not being rented out whether or sits in the lot or is in the shop it costs the rental car facility money. I've rented Calibers over a half dozen times since they were first available through Dollar and Thrifty Rent-A-Car here in the USA. My decision to purchase a Caliber came from my rental car experiences. They are reliable. I also make it a rule that when a new model of vehicle comes out not to buy it the first model year it's available. All of the recalls and important issues are typically found during the first model year of a vehicle unless a design or part change is made after that time.

Michael Kiresh's Truedelta.com website gives reliability, & MPG (including conditions) of many cars. Mr. Kiresh is passionate about reliability data & thinks he is a good alternative to Consumer Reports Auto reliability data. The Caliber has higher reliability than the Nissan, & GM products. Even the Ford Fusion & Mercury Milan, which seem to be v. reliable cars have equal or less reliability than Caliber. Compared to my past cars, Plymouth Champ which had no problems (except for 1 muffler) till 110,000 miles & Ford Festiva which has served me for 19 years(& I still drive), Caliber pleases me very very much for its initial reliability & MPG.

Hi srtgtr34...Yes, the Caliber is v. dependent on computer functioning. My glitch & your problems were due to that computer dependence. My Reset worked perfectly & no problems for 20,000 miles. My Caliber has been wonderful so far. Hope your Reset solves your problems. Outside of my reset, my 100% functioning now, plus not one squeak, creak or rattle has me hoping that my Caliber was built well & right & that it will be a truly reliable & long lasting car. Another reason to hope for great results from my Caliber is its outstanding overall average 31.4 MPG, superb 32.7 MPG average over 4000 foot mountain passes & flat highway high of 35.6 MPG. All this indicates the engine & drivetrain are in excellent tuning & harmony. But Caliber seems to give excellent MPG only with careful constant feather footing. If you don't concentrate on getting good MPG, you won't get good MPG.

Have to see if the tires get me better mileage then the org.Dunlaps that came with the car. The ride is a lot smother and a lot less RD. noise. My avg is 31 -32 miles per gallon. will let you know if i see any change-----------John

Earlier I posted about truedelta.com & its good Caliber reliability data. As of this month, Consumer Reports now reports that Caliber is also above average for vehicle reliability! That is quite amazing since CR has undeservably given Caliber bad press. I see newyearsbaby2006 has an SE Caliber much like mine, even down to the standard Dunlop tires that came with the car. I encourage you, newyearsbaby2006 to keep careful MPG data for your Caliber. We are close to the same MPG & many people doubt our superior SE Caliber MPG because their own SXT, R/T, or R/T AWD MPG is so low. As far as your standard Dunlops lasting 57,000 miles, my Dunlops are wearing very well too. But so far I only have 22,000 miles on them. Your experience reinforces my idea that they should last 50,000 miles. My dealer has aligned & balanced my tires exceptionally well from the beginning.

I get right at 30 MPG avg. driving it like a car. Rather, driving it like I am going somewhere with purpose. I have 19,500 miles and the Firestones still have the rubber fringes on them. Just thought I should throw that out for the SXT owners. Not fussing just saying.
