I've owned my SE Caliber since end of September. Love the CVT(climbs mountains nicely with 2liter engine) & mileage is 35MPG on the hiway with careful driving. However, the Caliber bucked like crazy leaving stoplights after returning to sealevel from the mountains one day. Dealer said the computer interpreted the return to sealevel as having the wrong oxygen content & leaned out the air-fuel ratio too much. Dealer made a software correction & my Caliber is smoother than silk again with no problem re-occurence.

Following up from my last post. I've had my SE Caliber for 13 months & 18000 miles. Except for the electronic glitch mentioned previously, my SE is 100%...NOT EVEN ANY SQUEAKS, CREAKS OR RATTLES....NOTHING BUT GOOD PERFORMANCE. I love my SE Caliber...I LOVE IT.

Considering the number of rental companies who use Calibers (in Canada) there must be a reason. Many companies in my area have switched from Neons to Calibers for their small cars fleets.

Another reason for the switch to Caliber is that the last Neons
were built in 2005,Caliber replaced the Neon.

Calibers are common for rental car fleets here in the USA as well. Rental car companies are not going to keep vehicles in their fleet that are unreliable as it costs them money. Ever time a rental vehicle is not being rented out whether or sits in the lot or is in the shop it costs the rental car facility money.

I've rented Calibers over a half dozen times since they were first available through Dollar and Thrifty Rent-A-Car here in the USA. My decision to purchase a Caliber came from my rental car experiences. They are reliable. I also make it a rule that when a new model of vehicle comes out not to buy it the first model year it's available. All of the recalls and important issues are typically found during the first model year of a vehicle unless a design or part change is made after that time.

Michael Kiresh's Truedelta.com website gives reliability, & MPG (including conditions) of many cars. Mr. Kiresh is passionate about reliability data & thinks he is a good alternative to Consumer Reports Auto reliability data. The Caliber has higher reliability than the Nissan, & GMproducts. Even the Ford Fusion & Mercury Milan, which seem to be v. reliable cars have equal or less reliability than Caliber. Compared tomy past cars, Plymouth Champwhich had no problems (except for 1 muffler)till 110,000 miles& Ford Festivawhich has served me for 19 years(& I still drive), Caliberpleases me veryvery much for its initial reliability & MPG.

wow wow wow neon's unreliable, yeah right i oncehad a neon with 190,000 on stock motor with no out of the ordinary problems. On the other hand the caliber has given me one alrady and i just bought it in december. The car would not start so when u turned the key to ON the windsheild wipers came across one and the headlights and interior lights went crazy. Dealer had to get it towed back to dealership, they said it just needed to be reset but what caused it? maybe the calibers have eletrical problems.
