Default Home Brewed Bio Diesel Anyone?

Anyone using a blend of bio diesel greater than B20? I am particularly interested in anyone using home brewed B50 or greater in their 98.5 - 2002 CTD. I'd like to know how well it runs, MPG, how low of a temperature you have safely operated at, and if the VP44 can handle it.

I am particularly curious because I just brewed my first batch of bio yesterday and I'd really like to run higher blends than B20.

I'm very interested in Bio Diesel. Do you mind going in to some detail about your setup.. Equipment you use, raw materials, costs, etc.. How much per gallon does the final product end up costing you? Performance differences? I want to know it all!

I been running Bio for a year now with out any problems at 100%. I blend it 70% Bio /30% #1 at 30 degrees and 50/50 at 15 degrees or less. I make enough for myself and 2 other people. I run it in a 6.9 83 Ford , 06 Duramax and Jeep Liberty Crd. The other 2 guys have Dodge 02 Dually 03 Dually
New Holland Skid, and a another 06 Duramax!! The 02 has about 350,000 on it and the 03 is running about 150,000 on it. I had a 05 Dually Diesel dodge but had problems with the injectors . That was before I even tryed Bio I had it 2 weeks and it was throwing clouds of smoke when it started up and dealership said that was normal ( bull pucky). I was hoping that the bio would help No such luck.
I gave up on it after STAR started screwing around with me. (more Ranting again)

As far cost it depend on the on Lye and the Methanal Iam average about .58 cents per gallon
1 of the guys I supply with Bio sells me the methanal

What's your production level.. how many gallons a week? Are you using WVO? What's your refining setup?

It costs me $6 to make my first gallon. But that was because I used virgin oil and bought an expensive "quart" of methanol ($5 for a quart). I didn't want to buy a 55 gallon drum of methanol and 25 pounds of sodium hydroxide and then find out that I couldn't make it, or that it was going to be more trouble than it is worth.

I made my second batch last night and it looks like it is going to be a good investment. I'm gonna start working on a processor this weekend. I figured that I can make it for around 87 cents a gallon. Of course it can be a time consuming process.

Bob, I've heard of bio cleaning out tanks with crap in them and shoving it into the filter... you might want to keep an extra fuel filter or two while your running on the bio fuel, just in case it gets plugged just a thought...

I checked out the link you provided and it looks like it's some sort of forum just like here. Before I wander over there and start asking stupid questions, is there a site that you'd recomend that shows you step by step what is involved in making bio? I'm sure there are a million of em, but what site do YOU recomend? 58 cents a gallon just can't be ignored.
