Thanks, Marty. I'll look - I'll bet I can find something at least similar - although this is New Mexico and things take a little bit longer to get here than other places .

This mod seems like it might be the one we've been looking for. I would suggest that, if after several of us have done it and everything seems to be working fine, that we get it posted permanently on here someplace for future reference by others.

What do you guys think?

dave

I'm running to a local electronics place "Altex" at lunch to get some new switches. It's a great place to get stuff, they carry complete computer systems down to circuit boards & resistors. I'm sure they'll have something to fit the bill.

I plan to install this and if it works (I'm sure it will) I'll pull out the GSM wiring that runs through, across the front and up to the fuse box up front. It's a much cleaner suloution. This will also give me a chance to replace the cheap GSM switchs and mount them (ESP and Fan switchs) by the Trunk button.

Here another place to browse for rocker switches, I'm looking for one like the "SPST ROUND ROCKER SWITCH CAT# RS-144" from All Electronics Corp It looks alot like baldyloxs's.

Anyhew... Yes I agree Dave, this should be added to the DIY section.

Sounds good Dave.Lets clarify A few things I didt it, you have to remove the ashtray unit to get the last 2 screws took me half an hour to find them.(Just grab on the underside and hold above give firm steady tug comes right out). There are 2 purple wires both have blue stripes on them, one dark one light.YOU WANT THE LIGHT BLUE STRIPE.Ok now as far as mounting I put my switch oppisite side of the acc. port in the center console down low.If you want a pic I would be happy to post one 4 you.If you use a switch like mine test how it flips after you install it,the tighter the fit the harder it flips on/off.Very easy to do I didnt have to disconnect battery cable to do it either. Is it worth it ? Maybe if I was a drifter,or had about 60hp more,or liked doin doughnuts. What noticed was you dont get that second gear power loss, and in no means will it FRY THE TIRES(Unless you hold the brake or run it through the water box)I guess in the end I can look at HAL and say FU

baldyloxs, you chomping sunflower seeds? LOL

I use to eat those things all the time when I was a mechanic. You could find me by following the trail of shells on the floor

All puns aside topbanna3767, you did a great job. Look at the interest and thought you spurred. A lot of folks chipped in their ideas which are inspiring.

Everyone comes from different walks of life. I worked on seismographic trucks when I got out of high school many years ago. The label would have been a heavy mechanic. Now I work with computers during the day and tinker on the side with something I consider fun and a hobby. With these newer cars I’m just another shade tree (wanabe) mechanic trying to catch up with technology.

Keep up the good work and keep your thoughts flowing, you will grow from every new experience.

Yea Dave I only noticed that it doesnt cut out when it hits second gear. There was no tire frying going on,unless you want to hold the brake .I could already do that.

We've heard from some who seem to say it becomes a totally different "animal". Is it worth the time and effort? What do some of you others who have done this have to say.

dave
