Default Silencer ring removal Cummins Diesel Ram by Local Yokel ...

Step 1: Remove tube running from air cleaner box to turbo .....

Now you can see the silencer ring and snap ring that holds it in place .....

Step 2: Using a screwdriver, GENTLY pry the snap ring out of its groove being careful not to gouge the aluminum turbo housing. Metal shavings = destroyed turbo. Its actually pretty easy to remove..

Now just pull the silencer ring out ...

Here is the turbo with both the snap ring and the silencer ring removed ....

Thats it! ...

The whole project took 20 minutes. I do notice the whistle being slightly louder, but im still on the stock airbox. I have a video driving around but its really crappy quality and you hear the tires spinning and not the turbo LOL.

P.S. If anyone needs it, I have b***er versions of these pics....

Thanks Localyokel,
I removed the hose from the air intake and had a look down the intake and only saw the plastic "cross-hairs"
didn't want to mess with my new baby - closed it all up, sat and waited.
I knew someone would do this - great pics and wording - yes this needs to be posted at FAQ' mod's.
I also read on thie topic that was posted earlier regarding Holsett mentioning this ring was installed
by Chrysler's request, and varifiying no loss or gain in the power dep't.

Thanks again.

Is there any benefit as far as gas mileage or HP increase by removing the silencer? Or is it just louder?

Mine did not have one when we checked. I guess they didn't put it in. I bought the truck perfectly original so I don't think anyone took it out. Although I think he said he poked a tiny hole in the line to get me more boost. Boy Howdy! It worked- then the screw fell out. Gonna do it right. Keep an eye on EGT's though if done. It boosted my truck about 9 more boost. By the way anyone know why my truck only gets 25 in boost? I played with my chip and the setting is on 39 so I don't burn er' up- I hope!

My turbo is already way loud.
