Hey guys.
I am sure I will catch hell for this but here it goes. I am a police officer in Massachusetts. We just were blessed with our first dodge chager and needless to say, our dept. LOVES it. I did learn a trick that may or may not work with the regular charger R/T's. I was taught to completely turn off the ESP.

You start the car. press the esp button once. You will now see the charger squiggle light come on. Now hold the button down for a full 10 seconds.
under the speedo you will see the words "espoff".

After that, you are tottaly on your own. those sad tires don't stand a chance.

It works with the police chargers. someone let me know if it works with the R/T's.
I may be a police officer but I was a hot rodder first.
Tgriff.

Welcome tgriff144, thanks for the heads up. I'm sure you'll get some feed back if it works or not on the "regular" R/Ts. I'll give it a try this evening

So, do you press it once to get the squiggle, then press it a second time for 10 seconds, or just press it once and hold for 10 seconds. We've been trying variations of this, i.e., press and hold for 5-6 seconds.

What year is the LX? The police package has the same CAB as the non police package but different years use different modules.

With our 2006 charger, I simply hit the button once, let go of it, then hit the button a second time. This time holding it for at least 10-12 seconds. I am unaware if it will disable regular R/T' If it does, it would save people (including myself due to the fact I love driving the car so much I plan on owning one) time and money. If it doesn't work, I am sorry. Dodge should be the ones sorry. Maybee they should make this a standard ability from this point on. Other then that, everything about the car is 10 times better then our crap victorias.

Glad you like the Charger! It's a wonderful car, even with all its little draw backs, i.e., HAL!!! I'll be trying this in about an hour - when I get off work. I'll post again when I get home as to whether or not it works on my particular R/T.

I don't think that works on standard cars.

I was at a Ride n Drive with pro drivers when the LX cars were first introduced.
They gave us a ride around a road course with the ESP active. Then totally deactivated it and gave us a second ride just to show the difference.

But anyway, they had to hardwire a switch into to PCM to TOTALLY deactivate the system - so I know there is no way to TOTALLY deactivate it on the consumer model... but this was on the '05 LX cars.

TGRIFF,
Mine did'nt work either, can you check and see what software you have? To do this press and hold the steering wheel misic note and compass buttons for 6 seconds, then toggle through till you see the sftware version screen.

Also, are thier any computer gurus in the forum? If we cold figure out how to connect to hal's e-prom (like the dealer does when updating software and the flashpac does) we could share software versions via e-mail/laptop as long as we could figure out how to connect to a laptop??? Any thoughts????

Sorry guys, I was hoping it would work for all chargers. If I find out any info from some friends in the dodge business, I will let everyone know. In the mean while, drive like mad, just let me turn away first.
Be safe.

The ABS Modules are not flashable through the dealer, In fact Chrysler can not Flash, or change the software in the Module. Teves does not allow it and the only people who can work At Teves. Also the police LX uses the same Controller for the public and police version. Not sure how it disables it.

Tgriff144,

Welcome aboard.

I have a 2006 Mango Daytona and it does not work for me either. Being a former deputy sheriff and reforming from my muscle car days (I had a 71 Ply GTX 440 Dana 60 Hurst 4 speed car before my Daytona), I enjoy lighting them up also, but in all truth, I haven't with my Daytona -- yet. However, question for you: what firmware version are the new squads using? I am using 4.06. Also, I would bet the ECU system in the squads are different than the stock Chargers (IE, cooling fans come on earlier, shift points are different, etc).

From what I am told from the emergency equip. outfitter who was "trained" by dodge, He says that only the police package had the ability to completely shut off the esp. As far as other equipment on the motor, I was informed that the waterpumps, clooling system and shift points are relativley the same as a r/t with a little tweeking. The speed gov. had been removed. This car is ten times the car the crown victoria is.....for the same price! The only problem we will have with our charger is who will be the first to crash it due to the new power and explaining to the chief why we need to but new tires again this week.
