why are there stars under our names ? what are they, where do they come from , why do some have more, and how do you get more?

the stars under you rname indicate how man posts you have.. kinda.. they come from the computer that keeps track on how man posts you do.. only way to get more is to post.. i think they have it as a kinda goal orented thing .. notsure.. your posts are also tallied up by your number next to the word "posts" when that number goes up,, you get more stars,, and the small phrases under your name change.. i cant remember the intervals .. but i think (IIRC) are 100, 500, 100, 1500, 300 and and i think 3000 thats it.. then moderator.. if you look at Tani1500 or Burning Rom, or Steve's names they have 5 starts (i think) with the words "section moderator" under neiath them.. they may have or less posts then other forum members .. they were promoted to a mod. positiion so they automatically get 5 stars... look at my little box.. i have 4 i think.. with nexttell cup series champoin.. and have like 2800 posts..(mainly b/c ive been here for friggen ever) and so on and so forth... hope this explains it well enough

you can usually tell when stars/post count means the most to people when they go to off topic and blow it up.. normally called post whores.. thats why Pat was thinking about removing everyons posts from there post count that posted in OT.. meaing if you have 100 posts and 99 of them were in off topic,, then youd actually only have 1 post.. guys like steve, rom, tani and myself with "high" post counts are the kind of guys that actually post in THEIR sections and are hardly in off topic, and give alot of time into the sections that matter,,,

True true...not that there's anything wrong with OT I guess. I just don't feel the need to post there. I think I may have 10-12 posts in there...if that. I'd rather talk cars/trucks/problems
That last reply was meant only to have an effect on my star count. (Haha) I just noticed that I have one star and the person who asked about the stars, has one star but we have different sub titles or nicknames or labels (whatever they are). Do these change as you climb the log entree ladder? Like I have one star and I'm a back seat driver, now will I keep my one star and advance my title or do people just get diff. tites?
No if you scroll down more on the "Forums" page there are several more areas to post and "Off Topic" is one of them. They are saying that if you post in off topic to discuss how hot Jessica Simpson is that it should not count towards your tally as alot of people on here use that to determine your level of knowledge. So if you had 100 posts and only one of them was actually in the 2nd Gen Forum that the other 99 you posted about Jessica shouldn't count as they are irrelevant to what most people post here.
