I heard a lot of people bashing the stealth and 3000gt cars saying they can't compete with an eclipse even at the same levels (base, es, sL, RT TT) and such, is there any truth to this or are they just being cocky?

Well, they're mostly right. The Dodge Stealth/Mitsubishi 3000GT are powered for the most part by the same motors and transmissions as in the Eclipse. The problem? The weight. The Stealth/3000GT are extremely heavy cars for coupes...and some were AWD options.
The only really fast model Stealth/3000GT were the turbo'd R/T and twin turbo'd TT model options. The VR4 was the top model for the 3000GT, the Stealth TT was the top model for the Stealths. Both were 300hp AWD 5spds out the gate. These cars would destroy most of the Eclipses ever built. In fact, the only car that was Eclipse or Eclipse based that would probably beat those models were the Talon GSX's...AWD turbo'd Eclipse basically...
1991 R/T: 3164 lbs, 222 HP
1991 R/T TT: 3793lbs, 300 HP (bumped to 320HP in 1994)
1991 Eclipse GSX (Turbo 4cyl, AWD, Same as Talon GSX)
195 HP (no weight posted)
1998 Eclipse GSX (Turbo 4cyl, AWD, Same as Talon GSX)
210 HP, 3157 lbs
Non-turbo
140 HP, 2842 lbs
2003 Eclipse GTS
3241 lbs, 210 HP
2006 Eclipse GT
3472 lbs, 263 HP
The earlier eclipses were much lighter, but only powered by 4 cyl. Might be a good race between the turbo eclipse and the Naturally aspirated Stealth. The engine in the 2003 is very similar to the Non turbo Stealth, but no turbo option stock. I would say the 2006 Eclipse would give a twin turbo Stealth a run for its money.
DevilsReject, I hadn't heard of a stock single turbo RT, only twin turbos. What year was it made?

The 2006 Eclipse isnt that powerful...and I'd take a Twin Turbo'd Stealth/3000GT everytime....
As for the single stock turbo's, I wasnt paying attention to what I typed...

Correction: The Talon "GSX" is actually the Talon Tsi. The GSX was Eclipse only. Sorry, but it kinda agervates me when someone messes up one the DSMs I had one.
i dont know.. my neighbor has a eclipse gst (frontwheel turbo) that is laying down 336whp. if you figure in the weight to horse power ratio. that turns out to a pretty fast car. it just seems if you could somehow match weight between the stealth and eclipse the stealth would win. its always a matter of weight.....

We're talking stock numbers...not aftermarket....but yes..that would be a pretty fast car...
