Pace Truck History 101 Official Indy Pace Trucks were available at the dealers in the spring of 96 with a production run of 2802 that came out of Warren Mich. (according to most reliable sources) The truck was based on the VTS V10 powered concept truck (SEMA 94/95). 150 trucks participated and performed various track duties at the May13 96 Indy race. The truck never actually ran pace laps that was the stripped Vipers duty. The Viper pace cars were never offered to the public but the lack of them forced Dodge to release the GTS the following year. The trucks that did track duty had #s (1-150) on 3 locations of the truck, windshield, back window n tailgate. All pace trucks only made as monochromatic blue w/white stripes, Dodge on the windshield, 5.9 245hp/345ftlbs,( auto's R/C S/B 4x2's, most came with 3.55 suregrip rear ends and power mirrors n seats. Dealers did push the RT pkg with these trucks. Indy Appearance Pkg consisted of the decal package, sport tuned chrome tipped exhaust for an added 15hp/ftlbs (over stock @ time) and 17x9 5spoke American Racing alum rims with Rams Head etched center caps and GoodYear Eagle GTII 275/60/17 tires. The stripes n "Dodge" on the windsheild were the only part of the decal package installed by the factory. The door, body n tailgate decals were optional (customers choice to install, by the dealers). Stock the Indys would run about 16.1 @ 84mph on the 1/4 mile. The RT packages trucks (46hp/51ftlbs additional) probably running 15.3 @ 89mph. RT pkg consists of cold air intake, pcm, cam and headers. Most Indy owners have found they got better results from mods than later models (SSTs included) because of changes to the emission levels (obdII) Any 96 should respond the same to mods as an Indy. But the Indys will probably be in much better shape and have about 1/2 the mileage compared to most 96's. Average Indy has about 50K miles on it. I know of quite a few with less than 20k miles. If your looking to buy an Indy and find one, look under the hood, if it doesnt list the paint code of "PCH" n Indy pkg code of "AGJ" in the sticker , then its a clone. I know of one Indy for sale, stock performance wise with toneau n skirt kit 48kmiles asking $14k pm if your serious n want his email. Also this 98 SST white with blue stripes has a lot of work done to it. I know hes babied it n put a lot into it. Bidding on ebay closes Oct 9 n the reserve hasnt been met yet. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2435114552&ssPageName=ADME:B
