Just wanted to say thanks to this forum.   We had the exact same issue on my wife's Durango this afternoon.  She called me mad as could be, I googled this forum, bought the part from the dealer (yes on a Saturday) and fixed it in less than 2 hours.   Total replacement time was 20 minutes.  I could do the next one, which I imagine will happen, in 5 minutes.

Thanks everyone.  I'll be reading this forum from now on!

Anybody helped Worldpeace? It seems that my fan is also blowing mostly out the dash, very little to the floor or windshield. Its like it is not shutting a damper or something. Any ideas?

Just had same problem.  Blower motor worked fine for 4 hour trip on Thursday,  and 4 hours back on Friday.  Saturday morning - the blower only blows air on high setting.  First I checked out all the fuses, and nothing blown.  Then I found this forum. I took out the blower motor resistor component as described earlier.  Went to Dodge parts - got part number 1-05061575AA (for 2003 Durango).  Put it in, and blower works like new.   Guy in parts window said it is a very common problem - and said "hey you got 5 years out of the old one" like that was something I should be happy about.  Part was $22.00 list price plus tax.  (This part looks much different than what I took out - so they definately have re-engineered it).   Mopar part had a manufacture date on box of 09-26-07, and made in Slovenia. Thank you so much for your help and expert advice.  You guys are G R E A T!!!

I have a 2003 durango, I thought the blower resistor was the problem so I changed it. Heater worked good for awhile, then It would quit workign at times. If you wiggle the wires going into the blower resistor it would usally start working again. The other day I could smell wires melting & the heater quit. I inspected the blow resistor plug & could see where 1 wire had been hot & melted some of the insulation. I think the plug was not making good connection in the socket. But it has melted the socket to the blower resistor & I think I will have to replace the socket (don't know if this is availible from dealer) & the blower resistor. Could a loose socket be the reason the wire melted? I think it was a blue/ brown stripe wire that melted, I think it controls high on the fan motor.

The wiring harness was mentioned in part of the repair on this thread that it may be the main issue of causing the blower resistor to go out more than once.  So in your case, you may need to replace the wiring harness if the dealer does not have a replacement socket.  I think the wiring harness will come with a new socket.

Also, inspect the harness and the surrounding areas where the harness resides.  Make sure there is no moisture or anything that may be causing the harness to fail.

To all the folks with the blower resistor advice--THANK YOU!!!! I was becoming the "irritated wife" when I happened on "The Dodge Forum" and found the answer to our exact same problem--the blower only worked on high and our mechanic said he thought it could be as much as $500.00! That wasn't going over well with the hubby so I was very glad to get the part, follow the photos, and have it fixed 20 minutes and $19.00 later. (I had to get a universal lug wrench attachment so the extra $4.00!) I will look forward to checking the forum out for future mechanical problems--they will come!

How sadly typical :(

Although - you know... keep an old one around - and use it to 'test the mechanic' ;)

A quick question...the blower on my 2002 SLT+ does work on all settings, however, it is VERY weak on the lower 2 (so much so that I end up turning it to almost high all the time to get air moving) .  Would this blower resistor also take care of that?  Or is it only if you entirely lose blower function except on high setting?  Thanks for any info.

It's the resistor, I had the same problem. Now we only use the first two setting now. What a difference it made. I paid $8.17 + freight from OEMDodgeParts.com..

Perfect...thanks...I'll swap it out.

Just thought I'd give an update:  The swap out took about 1 hour (as I didn't have the flex socket and had to finesse it out).  Anyhow, the old one looked "cooked" and the new one went in without issue.  I now have ALOT more air movement.  I should have done this years ago but just assumed that the Durango was always weak in this area.  On a side note, we get hosed up here in Canada.  The part was $28.75 from the dealer.  The same part is $9.23 online in the States.  What a rip.
