View Full Version : Anyone else lose the front bumper?
libertyfla 08-17-2006, 07:29 PM Magnum SRT8, 300 miles. Pulled into a parking spot, pulled out and the bottom lip of the front bumper caught on the tire stop and ripped the bumper off. Not completely but enough to rip a few of the plastic eyelets that secure it.
Dealer here tells me there is a national backorder for this bumper to the tune of 150 bumpers.
Anyone else riding that low??
dodgedlr 08-17-2006, 07:47 PM What part do you need?

libertyfla 08-18-2006, 12:00 PM I dont need any part. We were able to repair the fastner damage without any issue.
The front bumper assembly is all one piece.
My question is has anyone else had this issue?
Darth Magnum 08-23-2006, 04:44 AM Yep I did. Same exact thing with about 500 miles on it. Ripped the lower lip and had to replace the bumper. :( Found one in New Jersey. I don't go anywhere near a cement block in a parking lot anymore. My wife taped a couple of curb feelers on my new bumper as a joke..looks weird but not a bad idea..
viper24 09-23-2006, 12:57 AM we are on our 3rd front fascia with only 4000 miles on it. the fascias are so backordered it took 2 months in the shop this last time. just got the car back today.
i am fabbing up a "bumper" bar that will tuck right under the fascia to prevent it from hooking. i wonder if anyone else would want one if i made them?
fmarshal3 09-24-2006, 08:56 PM If you read my post about the brackets you will know that a lot of us have the problem. I'm hoping that keeping things up (and being a LOT more careful) will help me not do it again..
god_complx 10-02-2006, 02:27 AM I have learnt to back my car into any space that has an edge infront, whether it is a block or just the curb, it is the easiest and cheapest way!
viper24 10-02-2006, 02:31 AM yup, thats what you gotta do!
khendric 10-03-2006, 03:41 PM Charger SRT8, me too. Although it took a couple of tries before it fell off.
MagnumSRT8 10-14-2006, 11:11 PM As a matter of fact, my dealer pulled the front fascia off my car in the manner you describe when it was in for service. Dealer replaced the fascia at no charge to me. This is a common problem with the Magnum SRT-8 & the 300 SRT-8. Don't know how critical it is with the Charger SRT-8.
See posting by fmarshal3 & Viper24 for possible fix. I am working on a fix myself or may use one of theirs. Just be aware that if you drive your SRT at track events, changing the underbody aero panel geometry could have adverse effects at high speed.
Another tip. If you hook your front fascia over a curb or other such & have nothing available to lever the lower edge back up over whatever the item it is hooked on, try cutting the wheels all the way to full lock in one direction or the other. If you then back up very gently, the sideward motion may let the fascia slip back over what it is hooked on with only minor scratching damage. Worked for me.
44magnumSRT8 04-21-2008, 10:29 PM i am having problems with the front bumper issue, the plastic cover which attaches to the valance on my srt8 is wore out i am not sure if i can just replace that plastic portion or have to get a new bumper? I am staying clear of the dealer at all resorts since my $400 a piece price quote for brake pads. Please help. The car is too awesome to be parked in the garage.
I've dragged mine over several curbs, but luckily never got it caught. I figure the scratches can only bee seen when laying on the ground or when the car is in the air, so I'll just get a can of touch-up paint (spray) and shoot it every so often. No biggie.
Might start backing in a bit more now though. Good idea. The back isn't so low.
thankuhal 04-26-2008, 09:46 PM Thats a big yes!!!! Did mine 2 weeks after purchase. Really sucked out. Cost me 1200 bucks to get a new front facia. Well the insurance covered it at a 250 deductable. But, it still sucked ...lol
I have not parked no where near a concrete parking stopper again.
I was lucky to have a bungie cords in the trunk. That bad boy wound have fallen off by the time I got home.
Been thinking about getting the sensors that are beingused for the rear backup warning alarm and using them on the front. One of the techs at work saidit wouldnt be any probs at all.

Shibby927 04-28-2008, 06:01 AM My friends mom had a pretty nice Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, we were pulling out of the driveway one night and the corner of the bumper caught on a railroad tie and pulled it out, thank god it didn't break the fasteners. Cars sit so low its easy to catch them on things, I know I can't pull my girlfriends taurus too close to the curb at our apartment because the bumper drags. Oh well I gotta truck I can just park on the curb if I want :)
