Just bought a 2003 Dakota, Sport Pkg, 3.9 Lit. in April. I've Put a Camper Shell on (Century) Weight=175lbs, Noticed lost about a 1-2 Miles per Gallon. So tried to see if changing my Exhaust System (Modifing It) would give me back what i Had,I went to A 1 in -2-Out , Opened It up Some (My Flow) but Did'nt Seem to Help MPG's ,But Sounds Great .Anyone Got Any Suggestions? I Would Appreciate it> thanks .Great To be Here.

Does your camper stick out above your roof line or past the sides of the cab? If so, you have increased the drag coefficient of your Dakota and will need more power to move it thru the air. Unfortunately more power required =more gas used. I notice at least a 1-2 mpg decrease from placing a cargo carrier on top of my Jeep.

Hi OldDodgeDriver, Thanks for reply, My camper shell is a Century Its even right at the Cab, Then angles up to help with Preventing to much drag, And its even with the cab on the Sides. I wonder if the extra weight which is only 175lbs,Is the cause or do you think maybe because since i bought the Shell it sets A little lower in the rear? I'm just not sure!!I've Already Changed my Exhaust System ,I Put on a 25x225 sido14hp turbo muffler with 1 -in And 2-out Duals Out. It helped some but still not back to what it was. Was getting 20-21 MPG, Now 18-19 MPG's> I seen a Device that works Like a Blower for F.I. Diesel But for Lp as well,can't remember name of it, but the Unit was like $69.99 , And Was Gauranteed to Increse, I'm a little Leary of it. If you have anymore ideas i would really Appreciate them.
