Default stealth fuel problem?

i have a 92 stealth turbo, under hard acceleration the car sputters and cuts out but if i ease into the throttle there is no problem. the car has new coils, wires and plugs and is running premium fuel. any help would be appreciated. i took it into a dodge dealer, they charged me 1000 dollars and did not fix the problem. so i am a little leary of taking it to another dealer

It dies when under hard acceleration? What exactly do you mean by sputters? I'd probably try the alternator, see if that's the problem. Or better yet, try hooking a analog voltmeter up to your car and using that guide thestealth totes around to see if you come up with any codes. Just to be safe as well, I would look at all the valve seals to see if you have any leaks.

The stock fuel pump wiring sometimes is less than adequate. Fuel pump hotwire.

Excellent post Stealth. Stealth92, when was the last time that you changed your fuel filter? Can you determine an RPM range that the car lays down (can you rev it to 6000 RPM slowly but only 2000 wide open)? Most fuel filters should be changed or cleaned (only reusable type filters should be cleaned) every 10,000 miles or so. A friend of mine went nuts with a similar problem. He changed the coil, fuel pump, distributor, wires, plugs, everything except the fuel filter. After spending about $600.00 in unneccisary parts, a $12.00 fuel filter solved the issue.

i laso had changed the fuel filter. it feels like the car is not getting fuel if i accelerate hard. i bought the car about 1700 miles from home when i flew down to pick it up it worked fine, i only started noticing it act up after about 1400 miles. i had it in a shop that concentrates on bigger power cars and turbos and they thought that under harder acceleration the engine was leaning out, but he could not get into the computer to see why or how because that can only be done at dodge. is there a sensor that controls how fast the fuel pump pumps or does that info come straight from the ECU.

Thestealth can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the fuel pump doesn't have any sensors at all. The pump should run at a constant pressure with a return style fuel pressure regulator. The pump could be on it's way out the door. I would say to hook up a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure under load, but that's not an option on these cars. The fuel rails don't have pressure ports. There is a special tool to check fuel pressure, but it requires disconnecting the fuel rail, so you would not be able to run the car while it's connected. Plus, I've never seen that tool for sale anywhere (Snapon or a Mitsu dealer might have it). I saw a nice fuel rail transfer tube (the tube that connects the two fuel rails together) on ebay for 30-35 bucks. I plan to get one and modify it by welding in a fuel pressure port (any decent tube and hose shop can do the job for you). That way I'll be able to monitor the fuel pressure (very important in my opinion) and use power clean for the injectors. Since I plan on making some power upgrades as soon as I get mine on the road, I went ahead and ordered a new high volume/high pressure fuel pump ($98.00 online).

thanks for the advice,i have been too busy to look at my car for awhile now .however i recently ordered a new fuel pump,pump relay and a new computer. if this does not help i will try rewiring the pump. the alternator charges strong and the car runs great exept for under hard throttle

Have you checked for boost leaks? If you have a leaky vacuum hose, or a leak in your intercooler piping you will get hesitation.

this might sound dumb, but i had the same problem, i thought that i had a major fuel cut issue, but i decided to check the spark plugs, and the ground straps had completely eroded away. i changed them and that solved everything.
