Yea I think it was bad to claim an extra 10 HP but they do. Probably because there are people who will pay the extra for 10 hp but can't afford the SRT8. If they made it 20 or 30 hp more then they have to worry about the SRT8s selling as well.

I love the SRT8 but its like the old HEMI cars... They do not sell, its too much for the average person.  At most per year Chargers from 66-70 were about 300 per year.  I dought the SRT8 models of the 300, Magnum and the Charger sell more than 3 to 400 each...  I would rather build mint to be faster anyway.  Its like the Z06 to me, too much money and you build a Vette better.  I want to rid mine of all the suspension and built the engine, if I got the SRT8 then would do the same and waste a lot for upgrades such as the lower/tighter suspension in the grabage for all after market stuff.  The only two things that make the SRT8 worth the xtra $$ is the Brembos and the 6.1ltr...

Ya its silly but I like the R/T badge better than the SRT8 and I want to build a more classic looking Charger R/T.  Oh well...

I think we're all in agreement with that extra 10 HP now. It's kind of meaningless but it is true.

New to the forum. I work as a salesman at M&M Dodge in Alexandria, La and i have a charger R/T. I have only been in the car business for 3 months so there is still a lot i have to learn. i have no mechanical experiance but I have taken classes by diamler-chyrsler to get my sales certification.

the charger rt comes with or without the road and track package. the rt with the road and track package is the same set up as the daytona, just different badges. and yes the 10 hp difference is from the exhust and they do ride different due to the suspension.

the road and track package cost a little over $3000.

I'm going to throw my $.02 into the confusion. The Road and Track Handling package option for the Charger R/T predates the Daytona. I remember some articles in the mags R&T Handling package and it was definitely on the must have option package list.

When the Daytona's came out, Car and Driver pointed out that the Daytona changes were based on the R&T handling package equipped R/T. (They were also a little miffed that there was no Car and Driver packages offered. ) At that time, the Road and Track package for the R/T had the 350 horse 5.7 Hemi, performance suspension, high speed engine controller, 18 in polished aluminum alloy rims with black insets (sound familiar?), performance seating, dual zone air, and basically all of the goodies in all of the Customer Convience Groups. There may have been a few more items that I haven't listed but I was more focused on the first 5 goodies. At $1600, it was a steal. Heck, I paid more for the GPS.

I drove my car (before the mods) and a Daytona back-to-back and there was no discernable differences besides the cosmetics. I don't remember any differences in the exhaust tones. I think the guy who installed my Borlas still has my original suitcase muffler on his spare parts pile so I could check that out. I need to talk to him anyway about some headers and hi flow cats. There were definite differences in performance and handling between my car and the base R/T's that I test drove.

So the bottom line is that I have a stealthy Daytona. Ironically, the local constabulary got a POS Charger painted same color as mine for an unmarked car. Talk about protective coloration .

I just bought a r/t with the road and track preformance group last night.. nobody cares about the claimed extra 10hp since everybody does new exhaust and intake.... what sold me on it was the chrome 20's that resemble srt wheels and the freakin sweet A$$ interior, black leather with perf. suede inserts and red stitching, oh and also the body color grill/spoiler and the front chin on the bumper (which are all part of the road and track preformance group). There are a few other things I liked that came with the package but nothing I couldn't have improved my self later , I just new that I had to get that interior .  I can't wait to pick her up tomorow...

I'm so excited !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

umm... well the sticker was 35,000 and they gave me pay off on a jeep that I traded in (it wasn't upside down but they weren't gonna make money off of it either kinda a wash), then they gave me 3,500, in rebates and then I talked them down an additional $2,000 to sign right then and there. so I would end up financing just over 30,000 (with out any money down) after tax title and license. I think I am gonna put 6-8,000 down on it just so I'm never upside down on paper though, can't decide.

I'm new But I think I may be able to help clarify...
Charger R/T is not the same as the Charger R/T with the Road and Track package/ The if you buy the Road and Track Pacakage on your R/T it is just like the Daytona without the stickers... It has the Daytona Exhaust steeering, suspension etc... That's why you pay more for it.
