As there are continous request postings about the A/C blower issues on the 1st generation durango forums, I will post the fix here so all new users will be able to see it first before they post it in the forums.
If you have a 2001-2003 Durango and your front fan motor is working on high speed only (common issue) or not blowing at any speeds, chances are the resistor pack is blown. This is a known common issue for the 2001-2003 Durangos with the new redesigned dash and interior. This resistor pack is a dealer part item only. Cost is around $13-$20 and is a easy do it yourselfer. The resistor pack is located on the passenger side. When you look there, look towards the center part of the dash and you will see a wire harness connecting to the air vent duct. You will need a 7mm or 8mm socket with a u-joint shaft as one of the two screws may be hard to get access to using a straight extension socket shaft.
1. Unplug the wire harness.
2. Remove the two screw and pull out the resistor pack. You will notice on the replacment pack, it looks like a flat square resin pack. If you cannot pull it out, you may have to wiggle it out as I have seen some resistor packs that blown have swollen and hard to slide out.
3. Slide in the replacement resistor pack. Re-install the two screws.
4. Re-connect the wire harness.
That's it. For first timers, this may take you 20-30 minutes. But once you get the hang of it, the actual job will only take less than 5 minutes.

Any chance of getting the part number? Maybe can order from Moparparts.com?
Thanks,
Dan
You will have to do a search in this forums as that part number was posted. But you can call the dealer themselves and they should be able to get you the part number for the resistor pack.

two things, 1, when you change your resistor, make sure your wire harness isnt damaged also, or else your new resistor will blow in seconds.
second, i had the problem that my wire harness was fried too, and i cannot seem to find anything on replacing the wire harness. i tried to take out the glove box, but there is a panel behind it and im not sure if im going to have to take out the whole dash, which i really do not want to do.
It's a fairly simple replacement. Looking through the different posts, it looks like the part number may have been superceeded/changed since I replaced mine back in 2003 I think it was. Didn't think it was going to be that common of a problem when I created the page, but looking at my site stats, I average about 3-400 page visits a month on my resistor page.
I, of course, had the same problem happen to me recently. I read your fix and followed the instructions, and within a matter of minutes, had my fan working properly again. Thanks so much for the info. BTW, it only cost me $15 Cdn for the part.
Have there been any past posting refering to the low cfm air output from the front and rear blower motors with possible upgrades on the motor rpm's or blower wheels?

Yes, but no one ever responded or knows if there is a blower motor upgrade.
