I just received this truck from one of my moms friends and was wondering if anyone could help me out with some advice. First off I have been told that the truck has a holly performance FI system(holly is stamped on top of the throttle body inside the air cleaner), a big crane cam, comp roller rockers, gibson headers, dumped exhaust, a re-geared rear end, and an after market computer, the truck sounds amazing at idle, but the trans slips and seems to have a lot of trouble shifting, for example while I am driving the truck will seem to act like it has no kick down when I try to accelerate while in motion or it will only seem to shift if I let my foot completely off the gas pedal and then put it back on. and it has been a while since I drove a car with an automatic out side of this one and if I let off the gas at any speed shouldn’t the rpms return to 0? because they don’t. I have already changed the screen and filter, gasket, and pan using ATF+3 but other than being able to put the truck in gear it has not helped. Also I was driving down the road last night and all of my gauges died except my spedo. All 5 read nothing but the light still work. If anyone can help I would be extremely thankful because I need a truck

Holly is stamped on my throttle-body as well, and I have full certiantly that mine was not modified.
When I am in gear and let my foot off the gas, my RPM's return to about 1,000. At idle, with the tranmission in Park, my RPM's are around 750.
As far as the gauges not working, when you turn the ignition ON, do lights (such as the check engine, brake, airbag, etc) lights turn on for a second or two? (The lights at the bottom of the cluster, not to be confused with the lights that illuminate when you turn the headlights on).
Post back.

Well, I would first check all the fuses. Pay special attention to fuse 14 (15A), and fuse 6 (20A).
If nothing suffices there, post back.

Can't turn it over as in it will turn over (starter works) but it won't go into a self-contained run, OR can't turn over as in the starter won't even turn it over (if so, does the starter try to engage).
If the starter won't turn it over (or the starter doesn't engage), that problem is not related to the timing chain.
If the starter engages the motor, but it won't go into a self-contained run, than perhaps we have something. I don't know what all the 1991 does or does not have, but a bad crankshaft or camshaft position sensors [sometimes called hall-effect sensor] can cause problems.
Of course, you need to get the basics out of the way too: make sure its getting fuel and spark.
